It was a very positive atmosphere. I look forward to the good things this commission will accomplish. Ernie is an experienced commissioner that can help lead this commission onto bigger and better things. He made it very clear that he wanted to throw out the garbage and start with a clean slate. He weathered lots of mud slinging this campaign but looks even stronger for it. It’s a shame that zavaletta didn’t show but I always knew he had no class.
Carlos was as always articulate and to the point. He is there for the people and is no one’s puppet. It was funny to watch other members squirm in their seats as these two fine gentleman received standing ovations on multiple occasions. Seems like the writing is on the wall guys... you had better straighten up and fly straight form now on…..we the voting public are watching.
Funny…I didn’t see the Shrimp Nazi there either. I guess he was on his new boat piloted by that familiar captain.

Don't forget that it was these two guys who backed up Zavaletta in getting Ahumade the junkyard dog on the PUB board when two other much better candidates had already been voted down.
The community could have avoided a lot of the mess that followed. Now it's time to get back on track with things with all of the yelling and hollering.

Man this is an extra good episode. He’s on a roll with idiotic statements. So far he has talked bad about a Brownsville Icon, mentioned his good friend Lucifer, threatened Chris in a public forum, reminded everyone how much money he has, denies losing the election, named Brownsville a “laughing joke” (whatever the hell that is”, cried racism, and promised to entertain us every night. Goody for us. Get some help robby. Do it for your family. Maybe they’ll put you away where you belong, that would be best for your family.
He does have his own site Wonder Woman. But it is so boring over there he has to come here. I read it form time to time in order to remind myself that some people do drop out of school. For someone to stand behind and support Sanchez is to not really know him and his family. Robert and his brother have been beating people up here long before Al Gore invented the internet.
The lack of mental development and stunted social values in an above average-sized human being can lead to very malignant social interaction. Robert Sanchez is a dangerous individual. There's no denying this. Many of us have witnessed it, first hand. At Sombrero's, Garcia's, outside sock hops, and other local hang outs. Only because of his family's money has he been sheltered from prosecution for so long.

Sanchez should have resigned from PUB before running for Commissioner. It is a clear conflict of interest for a PUB board member to be on the Commission at the same time, with the exception of the Mayor who the charter deliberately seats on PUB as ex-oficio to mediate the City and PUB's interests.
If I recall correctly, Commissioner Arroyo resigned from being Chair of PUB before running for Commissioner. It poses risk because if she had lost, she would have been off of both boards. Still, it was the right thing to do. Bravo.
But Mr. Sanchez isn't honest or even coherent, most of the time. The big winner from that article was Valadez. His offer to resign if the Commission wished him off sounded responsible and decent. The whole "in the dark" thing was hokey, but Sanchez sounds like a whining college-dropout freak who never should have been on PUB in the first place, and now wants to hold onto his ill-gotten seat despite his obvious non-qualifications. Robert Sanchez was chosen and appointed to the PUB because of his professionalism, business successes, and intelligence. Some of the bashers on this site were probably the ones that appointed him. Well it s too late to argue about this because Sanchez is doing an excellent job for the people and not just for the developers. The best is yet to come. When sanchez gets hit, he comes out stronger.

Robert Sanchez is paid up at the tax office after getting the bill for the first time since 2003. Robert pays all his bills on time including his PUB bill. Robert produces more taxes with his real estate and busineses than 95 % of the city. Whether anyone likes it or not, the Captain is an outstanding citizen who benefits his community more than most people because of what he created and produces. How can the voters have elected someone who never felt the pains of creating and running a business and paying major taxes. Sanchez pays between his house and businesses a total of 6000.00 per month compared to the one everyone elected who pays only 55.00 per month for his small home. Boy, you voters never really learned about which candidate was more of an asset to the city and community. Money does talk especially when paying amounts of taxes. Now that is responsibility. You fools voted someone in that all he claimed he could do was catch a baseball when Sanchez produces tax revenue for the community. You spineless wonders did it to the community again. Your hatred for Sanchez is a hatred towards the city of Brownsville. Captain Bob gets request for his business ideas up the state and all the way from Washington, D.C. The folks from out of Brownsville that work with the PUB or Sanchez's business associates that come and meet him leave with a different perception than all of you do.. The City Charter says that a board member basically has to be at the stage when the tax entity is going to confiscate real property because of the taxes. No one is even near that stage. Gentlemen, you are running out of ideas that can work to help the process eliminate those board members. First Ernie's statement asking for resignations; that didn't work, next you try the taxes, that doesn't work after Emma Perez-Trevinos report today in the Herald. Whats next, "whoever has his shirtail out is suppose to loose his seat." Give it up guys and lets go to a round table discussion on the city's channel so everyone can see and take note. Our forefathers made the charter so to protect the regular folk. Now the leaders want to spit on our forefathers ideas and forget about the regular folk and go with the folks that can finance them. That is called going with the special interest. People, you did it again to the city. You should be ashamed of yourself. Maybe the Captain was correct. Maybe Ahumada and Valadez do see the light. Sandradee, Look at Ross Perot and Bill Gates and how they pay major taxes that help our country. Perot paid 625,000,000.00 in one year when he was running for president. He was more of a producer from his ideas and major businesses to the taxing revenue for the country and Dallas than Bill Clinton was. The people of the USA chose Clinton over Perot. As Perot said it, " Clinton and I are compared by our production to our community, Clinton is compared to the manager of a neighborhood corner shop and Perot is compared to the General manager of Wal Mart. Unbelievably Clinton and Cisneros were elected. The people in general stray away from big successes that have made lots of money on their own. Perot would have made a great President but the people could not accept all the money and vocal personality. Sanchez would have made a good commissioner, but the people could not accept the success and money he has plus his clear vocal personality. So back to the story, Perot paid 625,000,000.00 in taxes compared to Clinton's 15,000.00. The respect and the votes should have gone to Perot. He paid in one year what the PUB is worth. Sanchez did not pay that much, but should recieve the respect he duly deserves for adding jobs and taxes to the area. How can any educated person not understand this and understand that these folks took risks and picked up experience handling money and keeping there businesses open while contributing to the community with major tax payments. That should be respected.

The Brownsville Herald had an article today about PUB raising costs for developers. The developers said they would pass any increases on to the constomers. Cris Valadez had an interesting quote in that article.
He said, "If you get a mortgage for $100,000 or $102,000, that's not going to make a difference.... we're not talking about alot of money"
Just that SMALL increase on that mortgage will increase the amount of interest you pay by about $3000. That's an increase of $5000 to buy a house. I don't know about you Mr. Valadez but to me $5,000 IS alot of money.
$5 bucks says Sanchez is gone in 6 months all by himself. No one is going to kick him off, no one is going to vote him off, he's just going to walk away. And, for those of us who have known him longer than a expressway billboard leasing agreeement that's a sucker bet.
Sanchez can't work in an environment where other people express differing opinions from his. He'll blow up and walk off the job. He's an idiot that way.
The only reason I say six months is because his ego will force him to sit there and "tolorate" all those around him as he stews over this election.
The PUB position was a political gift, a token of someone's appreciation. Sanchez's is unqualified, inexperienced, and easily bored. The appointment was a stepping stone for public office and it failed miserably for him and those who selected him.
In six months he'll go back to sitting in his office and pretending he understands cashflow, profit & loss statements and balance sheets (which he knows very little of other than the zeros his father left him look fantastic on paper).

$100 says that Solomon Ortiz does not have the legislative stones to bring I-69 to the Cameron County corridor.
A per the TXDOT Pharr (South Texas-RGV) Engineer, TXDOT is currently running an evaluation on two corridors as has been stated in the press over the last two years.
HOWEVER, the two corridors are one in McAllen and the other in Laredo. There is no mention of I-69 being split into two sections similar to the I-35W and I-35E in the DFW area.
When asked directly if the corridor would be split in San Antonio or Corpus to bring I-69 into the RGV, the senior engineer emphatically stated, "No". He stated that the HWY 281 improvements between Pharr and San Antonio would most likely bring the I-69 corridor to the "Western" section of the Valley.
That show of downtown in the banner makes it look a lot better than it is. Good job
Thank you Mr. Mass. But downtown is as good as it looks. It's up to us to make it "better" by building on the qualities it already offers and that have been neglected for far too long.
