Cafe Brownsville

This is the same guy that handed me his "Judge" business card during an election campaign and told me it was a "get- out-of-jail-free" card. The guy is a classic local pol. He fancies himself a democrat so he feels obligated to critize the war in Iraq. He doesn't know what units are over there, what the price of oil is or even who the last local soldier that died over there is, but he's got the party line down good. Oscar will always be a wannabe. But I'm no dummy, so I still carry that card around JUST...IN....CASE. (BTW Thanks, Oscar.)

Don't get me wrong, I like Oscar I just think he's an idiot. His new year's resolution in 2001 was to write a book on how to use politiqueras and the adult day care businesses to win a local race. He was actually going to write a book about it. Well for Oscar that's probably more of a pamphlet. His idea of a free democracy is being able to place his political campaign signs in your yard whether you like it or not.

Several years ago I asked him what his campaign goals were, he answered that he wanted to get the major intersections working in Brownsville. I thought he was talking about business development or at the very least traffic flow. When I asked him more about that, I was shocked. He quickly corrected me by stating he wanted to put his political sign on all the major corners in Brownsville-that was his big goal. "Five or six good corners can make an election for you," he said. "You know what I mean?" I knew what he meant, but of course that was before the days of Mr. Shrimp.

Oacar Tullos is like jell-O and you know what Bill Cosby said about that...

There's always room for Jell-O .
Right, Oscar?

Tullos has always spoken from both sides of his trap. Perhaps he can elightned us sheeple as to why he is suddenly out the jp race to re-elect him. Sumptin is zup. Una pregunta de Pugsley deBrute .

I would venture a wild ass guess that Gilberto Hinojosa is up to no good with regard to that seat and Tony Torres. Tony's not long for his appointed position and after he (Hinojosa) puts Conrado back on the streets he's going to have to find a home for Torres.

I wish I had a friend like Gilbert... Right, Oscar?

Thanks to our Judge,"Constable" Conrado will soon be out on the streets again, issuing tickets and just plain ol' "patrolling" 'round cameroon county, again. Like Lazarus . A true male politiquera. Its no sectret that he's running fer sheriff, AGAIN. It should be interesting ,should he make an arrest and have to book the crook (which is which) at the jail , he "used" to "run'. Seriously, Edge has a good point, the judge wants absolute power. He already controls the mayor of brownsville, sorry Chris, its true. He controls the Commissioners court, most of law enforcement, and now will have a hand in the JP race as well. He must be a closet Republican ,power hungry. I too wish I had an uncle like that , who would employ me no matter what I did , not do, or was not qualified for. Only here on the Border by the sea, que cosas. Dice...

Oscar Tullos is a has-been and a low-life. He "controls Eddie Trevino"?!? Sorry pug, Tullos is just a JP and a wad from the barrio who drinks himself into a stupor with his favorite has-been barrio wad who he let out of prison, Conrado Cantu, on orders from his personal sith lord, Neto. Tullos doesn't have money, prestige, political pull, or anything to offer except a fixed parking ticket or legal favors to Neto. His reputation is that of a "judge bought and sold by Neto," Neto himself often bragging about having this JP in his pocket (or wallet?), his convenient judicial whore. Its tragic and pathetic when the mexican 'mordida' mentality enters into the US judiciary. Why would the Commisioner Court even care what Tullos and Conrado Cantu think... much less be 'controlled' by them?! Conrado and Tullos = Puppetmasters??? HA HA HA! That's kinda funny, when you say the puppets are the puppetmasters!
So try to make your conspiracy theories sound (at least) a teeny bit plausible, por favor. dice political politiquera

OOOOOps, I need to learn to proof read.I mean Judge Hinojosa controls all these aforementioned people....sorrio...buy ur absolutely correct Politiquera, , Tullos can control his own...well I won't say it,....dice... :o

I dont think Hinojosa controls Trevino. I would like to hear about specific incidents which leads you to believe that. Evidence perhaps.

Hinojosa controls those dumber than him, lazier than him, perhaps even more "purchaseable" than him. Hinojosa LOVES Olmito for example. I think the metropolitan areas(Brownsville and Harlingen) hate his guts. I wouldn't put Eddie in that category. He has impressed me somewhat with his mindset and direction. Eddie would have to have more balls and kick a little more ass for me really like him. i.e., turn to zavaletta and ask him in open court to SHUT THE F*#K UP, but I don't think he is Gilbie's byotch.

Let me know why you think Gilberto runs Brownsville, please.

While I may not have solid irrefutable evidence that he is in total control , he does rent out to little eddie some office space, managed to convince former city commish harry mcnair to bulld an expensive park near his downtown mansion, where his kids won't play at. His home has the cleanest sidewalks and alleyways in all of downtown brownsville, as compared to other homes just down the street. His home is patrolled more thoroughly than most of his neighbors. Perks that are not afforded to just any other joe frijoles in the area. He controls mpost of the local judiciary, the jp courts, the sheriff, most of the local appointments such who works for whom. Ya think that the constables can hire their "own", without input from the judge gilbie? nope. How else did Rumaldo Rodriguz, and pretty soon Conrado Cantu, get a job with Constable Saul Ochoa? The county commissioners don't make a move without his approval. The jails built, the dancy renovations, the contracts for bank services , even the jail food services are all connected to the judge somehow. Now, these little things may appear to be minor, but profitable for the judge. I feel he is in control of most of Browntown despite mny weak case. We needn't be too blind to the subtleties. dijo...

(Lets hear more bout Gilbert and his underlyings, but back to Chris' original question
I don't support the war and I don't support the troops! Alas! I sound like those anti-Vietnam hippies throwing rotten tomatoes at soldiers returning to the states! However, unlike the 60's, not a single American soldier fighting in Iraq was drafted or even has to be there. Every one of them volunteered to go. They chose to do it for the college scholarships or US citizenship or a military career or for personal reasons.

Iraq was a waste of money and lives, and we shouldn’t be so quick to support troops who choose to be part of an ill-conceived invasion of a sovereign nation in exchange for money, a job, or college tuition. Ppl, is it worth being shot to death? I am a true blue old-school conservative, Pat Buchanan style, by the way. None of this neocon Israel and Iraq crap. We need to use our brain before we decide to waste 400+ billion tax dollars in Iraq. As we continue spending billions trying to stablize the mess we have created, as the “coalition of the willing’ disintegrates (if it ever really existed), China, which wisely stayed out of this unnecessary fiasco, is minding its own business and successfully investing in its own Chinese industry, health and education systems, international trade and military. That is the real underlying threat to US hegemony.
It takes balls for true fiscal conservatives to speak the honest truth, and not dodge these uncomfortable facts with politically correct 'patriotism, obey the President, America vs evil' garbage. This is why Kerry lost, I beleive. That being said, it is noble and honorable to be willing to sacrifice one's life for their country. However, Saddam is not Hitler, and there was no real threat to US security. George Bush, a draft dodger himself, who two weeks ago had the Saudi Bin Laden relatives dining at his Crawford ranch, has hands dripping with blood for leading honorable men who answered their call to duty into an unnecessary death. For those thinking about joining the military for duty I would advise: wait until there is a real threat to US security before you lay your life on the line. I am politically incorrect!

I think most of these comments, including the editor's, miss the boat entirely. Carefully, read the actual quote. Tullos states he supports the troops but is critical of American foreign policy decisions. I find it intellectually dishonest for cafe's editor to claim any individual cannot feel similarly without inciting hypocracy. He never states he is against or for one push for democracy or another. He is not alone is this belief. I believe Cafe's editor's comments stretch any political statement by Tullos. For example, in hindsight, it is possible to look favorably upon the bravery of many of our troops during the Vietnam conflict but realize that American policy was ineffective and based on fear of the Red-spread that never materialized.
I am no Tullos supporter. I just like critically accurate reporting.

I'm no Tullos fan, menos Judge Whiskers, Neto `Legend In His Own Mind' Gamez, and their various underlings, (Cantu, Torres, et. al). I don't put the mayor in that category, by the way. He's better than that, I do believe.
I think the last election put a major chink in their operations. Their guys lost their butts and really bad. Cantu got his butt kicked bad as well.
I agree with a previous comment that is possible to support the troops but be criticial of the political strategies and motives that put them in harm's way.
I agree with U.S. troops going into Afghanistan after 9/11, but I believe we, as a nation, were clearly deceived by this president and his administration on the rationale for going to war in Iraq.
Saying that doesn't disrespect the troops. They are doing their duty and doing it well and deserve everyone's respect and thanks.

pugsley de brute : just because he rents from gilberto does not mean he is controlled by him. hey, wouldn't you rent from someone that gives you the rent cheaper. they were once partners but that does not mean he's being controlled. eddie does things on his own people need to stop listening to false stories. eddie is controlled by this eddie is controlled by that eddie takes advantage of this bla bla bla (all false). EDDIE IS A GOOD MAYOR!

its not that most of these comments, including the editor's, miss the mark, its just that Tullos is worth about one maybe two posts and that's it.

Eddie is good Mayor. Well said.

Does anyone know when the groundbreaking for the Hinojosa Land Fill and Toxic Waste Recycling Center is slated for this year? I hope I get my invitation early from the Chamber of Commerce, I bet they have mariachis there, Gilbie and I love mariachis. Does anyone know who is going to cater it?

I have watched Gilbie screw the entire county blind in Brownsville, Harlingen, Port Isabel and now Los Fresnos gets a turn. That nonsense with the fireworks manufacturing facility NEXT DOOR to an elementary school in Harlingen and then the topless, adult bookstore next to another elementary school in Olmito makes this land fill project look like a win-win for the residents of Los Fresnos.

I can already hear Hinojosa in the Herald via his girlfriend EP-T, "There aren't any legal avenues which the County can use to avoid something like this from happening. We don't have the necessary zoning controls to prevent it from being developed. I believe NEXT time we should have the proper zoning powers to avoid something like this from happening. I will do EVERYTHING I can to avoid something like this from happening again. I promise."

When is the Pete Benavides Tire-Burning Facility coming on line in Combes? Just curious...

The Edge

Look at me,I'm Sandra Dee!..I DID say I had no IRREFUTABLE evidence,,just alot of "circumstantial" evidence...,either way ,sorry, but He is controlled by Big Wiskers...Read between da lines,....Tullos alone is worth a blog as far as his vast array of mamadas he's done. Sorry to have gone off track...dijo........

I think you're reaching on the circumstantial evidence. ANYTHING would have helped your cause and argument about Trevino, I dont think he is controlled by Hinojosa, he might give him his respect as the county administrator, but I doubt he listens to him too much. Eddie's one of us and knows Hinojosa has his filthy fingers in anything he discusses or brings to the table for consideration.

I think Eddie listen more to Carlos Cascos than he does Gilbie. And, 10-4 on the mamadas of His Honor Oscar Tullos...

Keep it sharp,
The Edge
