Cafe Brownsville

I have to say I was impressed with Oliveira's decision to speak up in opposition to not just Lucio III, but to Juliet Garcia. Both sides made good arguments. I have to admit I like the idea of promoting a true university experience. A strong school spirit can have future dividends in terms of fundraising and alumni involvement. I do, however, feel that UTB keeps trying to start new things without strengthening the foundation of core academics. I'm glad I don't have to make that decision. I could go either way on this one.

Great comment, Patricia.

It looks like the companion bill in the State Senate, SB 612, is up for public hearing this Monday, March 12th.

If there's video of it, I'll try to include it shortly thereafter.

I wonder if the two elected officials who represent their respective districts in one same county (?is that true) could have talked to each other before apppearing before the higher ed committee.

Does the Higher Ed committee now get a sense that the folks in Cameron County can't make up their mind?

I don't know, I think we could do better then rounding the wagons and shooting towards the center.....but I'm new to this arena, perhaps this is how things are done in the power circles.
