I have a dream....that one day, we will elect candidates that know the basic tenants of city government....that those elected officials will scrutinize and select board appointees who bring knowledge, experience, and ability to the table...that even though some of the above may seek to better their own economic standing, that they do it by realizing that as the city prospers, so will they....yes...i have a dream...so please wake me from this "friggin" nightmare!!!

There you go again Chris, interpreting the city charter the way you want. Are you mad because you weren't put on this board? Oh yea, you live outside Brownsville. Your blog should be Cafe Rancho Viejo shouldnt it. The part about nepotism deals with hiring for a position or providing a service to the city where somebody gets paid. There isn't any compensation for sitting on this advisory board. Chris knows this but loves to spin the issues. He does have a skill with the computee but that is it. Maybe we should hire Chris at the city? Not!!!!

Mr. Atkinson,

The charter may be vague enough for you to have a legal defense, but by the same token, is vague enough for a reasonable person to have a legitimate concern that a violation exists. Regardless of Chris's motive for pointing out this possible conflict of interest, the rest us are capable of forming an independent opinion on the matter. I can't speak for everyoone else that has commented, but I would be equally concerned if this involved Pat Ahumada or Eddie Trevino, Anthony Troiani or Ernie Hernandez, etc.

Besides, the last thing your brother needs is to be in the public spotlight. You are not doing him any favors.

No disrespect but just because you agree with Chris doesn't make you both right. We can agree to disagree. Ive checked with legal. The charter review committee is an informal committee and not considered a board or commission because it is developed once every three years for a month or so to see if the charter needs to be changed. If no changes are reccommended by the commission or city staff, then nobody meets.
