Policy prohibits Atkinson from having security clearance

By Emma Perez-Trevino, The Brownsville Herald
City Commissioner Charlie Atkinson requested and was issued an airport security badge contrary to policy according to city aviation Director Larry Brown
Brown told The Brownsville Herald Friday that he was in the process of retrieving it.
"No other elected official has a badge," Brown also confirmed.
The badge, issued to airport employees, contractors and U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspectors stationed at the Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport, allows them access to secure areas.
Atkinson, an U.S. Customs inspector, is not stationed at the airport.

Emma failed to let the readers know that I work overtime at the airport so therefore I need a badge. Over forty officers have badges in case they might have to work out there. It really isn't a big deal. BUt gauging how desperate Brownsville reporter can be to write a story, I expect it. I never requested a badge, I had one for over five years. I took the test again because of my absence from Customs. Emma was also told that Larry Brown offered the badge and still stands by his belief that he did nothing wrong. He flaked because Emma bullied him and most city employees dont have the guts to stand by their decisions. He doesnt need the badge back because he knows I have top security clearances that go way above a security guard at the airport. The story was anything but a captivating story so she had to add to it and delete a lot of information to make it a decent story. What is pathetic is just how much Chris Davis is obcessed with me. It is getting kind of spooky. I have an opening for VP in my fan club so I would consider Chris's application. Come on Chris, did you ever play Baseball? You went to St. Joe. There wasn't Baseball over there. I will teach you Baseball if you want me to.

Atkinson doesn't really have a good explanation for why he would need a airport security badge, and stating that he can just get a badge from DHS made him sound pretentious. It's unlikely he'll be stationed at a place whose budget he ultimately oversees as a City Commissioner, even if that's not where his salary comes from. And, if there is no reason for him, as a Customs officer, to be at the airport, then the only other reason he initiated and actively sought a badge is for city business. This would be a privilage not afforded to the rest of the Commission, and since it would be gained through his job title, it would seem ethically questionable.
He may have won his lawsuit against CBP, but he's creating the kind of situation that gives credence to CBP's reasoning for firing him.

Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.
I feel horrible that folks are pounding on you, Commissioner Atkinson. Your service to this community goes unappreciated.
Perhaps as a token of our appreciation we shall pool our resources to purchase you a one-way ticket to Brazil where I'm sure you'll have a "stiletto" of a time. I'm told the love there is as free as the air, none of this RGV "hating" as you like to put it.

Mr. Atkinson,
Actually, I, Patricia A, who emailed you on the VBMC bonds and impact fee study (is that proof enough) did in fact write the previous comment. Your first comment was not yet posted when I wrote and submitted mine. I based my comment solely on the Herald article that stated "Brown said Atkinson told him that he could be stationed there at some point...Brown said that Atkinson filed an application for the badge several weeks ago." Mr Brown made it sound like you were the one who initiated the process. Anyway, I still think you shouldn't be stationed at any facility that is partly or wholly overseen by the City Commission. That's just my opinion.
Now, what I don't get, is why do you have to respond with insults. Even if you thought it was someone else who wrote the comments, nothing in them was offensive. I made some arguemnts, and if you thought they were completely wrong, then you can refute them, but there is no need to call people names. You lump all criticism as personal and political. When it's insults and jokes, just ignore them; but when we present arguments or ask legitimate questions, try answering professionally and respectfully.

Hey Sorry Charlie - the use of the word "gay" is so drama queen "gay" -real men use the word queer - so stop being such a victim and drama queen
On the badge the article said you do not need it anyway - note I said the article said you said - which does not make it true - nonetheless if you did in fact say it, then why did you take the badge?
