You complain about a possible conflict of interest with my brother serving on an advisory committee that doesn't pay, doesn't have perks, or doesn't offer anything but voluntary community service. If you read the charter about nepotism, it means offering payment for services rendered. My brother isn't getting paid. he deserves to put in his community service just like you and everyone else. I remember when there was an attempt to oust Pewee Rodriguez from the P.U.B. It was wrong what they were doing to PeeWee but I can honestly say it was all sparked by all the bickering in Cafe Brownsville and Robert Sanchez's website. Peewee was collateral damage for your constant knit picking. You put Peewee in a situation that he didn't need to be in. Don't you see that? I know you are not that stupid? It obviously doesn't matter to you because you insist in expressing your views and slamming people left and right but can you get it in your thick head that you are causing damage to other family members around you. You want to know what bothers me if any, the fact that I am friends with Michael Rodriguez, Carlos rodriguez, Alexia Rodriguez, Romeo, Patrick, etc. We have always treated each other with respect. Along comes Chris Davis and now it makes everything awkward. My sister works with Joe Rod and you have managed to cause awkwardness there too and for what??? I spent years working in the area of gay youth suicide. It is these type comments from public officials which make young gay men and women feel like they are bad.

I have filed a formal complaint with CBP office in Brownsville. I spoke with Adrianna Gonzalez. My issue is two fold - even if he was not at work at the time he posted this comment, it sends a message that gays being processed by Atkinson will be the objects of discrimination.

I am also calling on the Brownsville City COmmission to issue a public rebuke of these comments. This is intolerable. While I have contacted several state and national gay rights organizations to demand that the City of Brownsville and CPO denounce Mr. Atkinson for his comments, I am fairly certain none of these organizations will care one bit about Brownsville - but we shall see.

In terms of the gay community in Brownsville - among the professionals they do not like out of the closet gays - this is a general statement - there are many exceptions - the kids in highschool are a lot more out of teh closet than the lawyers, accountants, doctors - etc -

also I am not sure their wives would appreciate me calling their hubbies to this public fight- you may not believe me but Brownsville is locked in a time warp on this issue - it is like 1976 El Paso -

we only half a sort of 1/2 gay club in Brownsville and it is really for kids and their friends - over 30 and the are real old - also the club is mixed - meaning gay str8 - it is also where 500 pound women go to tip str8 male dancers - a friend of mine told me he got in trouble because the male dancer was str8 and did not appreciate being touched by a man -

I do not know if things have change in the 4 years since I was their last - I am not into bars or teh under 30 crown - or watching 500 pound str8 women tipping str8 male dancers

you get my drift - there is no real out of the closet gay community to rally.

If there were we would have been on the beach welcoming Dolly with Hello Dolly such as only gay men and Babs can do

i think our elected official (who actually voted for this guy) needs to do some proof reading or take his own advice. this is the lowest thing i have ever seen from an elected official, these people are suppose to be the role-model citizens for us fellow brownsvillians but they seem to be acting like bulling little kids. i totally disagree with how GTC took action, there is no need for those comments period. This incident is just a touch of the surface on how some of our city officials act, i mean weve all seen there SOAP OPERA on channel 12. We need major changes in this city, from PUB to the city government. if we want Brownsville to grow and live up to its potential, us citizens must unite and start electing officials that represent the role-model citizen (EDUCATED!!!), the honest person, or the common man.
