I know what you mean. A friend and I are hosting a make-up and skin care party tonight and when people first heard the date they looked at us funny, and we just told them life goes on and what better way to celebrate life than playiing with make-up.

My birthday is September 13th, and I find that some of the moodiness of September 11th bleeds over into the 13th now. I find myself thinking about all those lives changed in that moment and a birthday just seems so trite and self-indulgent.

See, I only ever think in British dates, so to me yesterday was the 11th of September, not September 11th. And it was my brother's 2nd wedding anniversary. And a year since we went on a whale watching trip out of Tofino on Vancouver Island. And 5 years since my holiday in New York. And two days before my birthday. Just a day.
