Charlie:
Let's be self centered for a moment. For those of us that are middle aged and can reasonably expect to live another 35 years - should we plan on hunkering down in the U.S.? Or are there other places in the world where we should start to consider living when we hit retirement age? What county(s) will be reasonably stable with solid economies in 2030?

BRIC economies will certainly become the main providers of global output in the next 3-5 decades. But the question is whether the US economy are positioned to keep its superpower status.
As the BRIC start to evolve their economies for more high-valued industries (financial services, IT, etc...), adding to their existing dominance into manufacturing and agriculture, it seems that the US should start worry about them.
History shows us that every superpower had its dominance time. China, Roman Empire, British Empire, Soviet Union, etc...
Should the next decades show us the decline of the US empire?
The answer is no.
America achieved its superpower status mainly because its diversified and business-oriented economy and culture. The emerging powers lack infrastructure, high-level education, venture capitalists, etc...
As long as America keep its creativity, entrepreneurship spirit and pro-business environment, the world will see the surge of other superpowers, but surely will not see the decline of the reigning one.
