True, that is primarily for non-profit ends, but I personally think there is a ton of room at the bottom end of the market.

I just got rid of my car because I wasn't using it much. But if I had had the option to buy a decent car for $2,500 -or heck even $7,000- I would quite likely have taken it.

One thing I always wondered about when buying (leasing) that car was, why are there no even halfway-decent looking cars under $10,000? It's as if they purposely hired D-student designers for every single one of those cars.

I think if a company came out with a hot-looking even $10,000 car it would do very, very well and I don't that that design expense would have a substantial impact on margins. It's a model that Apple, JetBlue, Gap and others have executed on quite well, and I don't see an equivalent in the US (or beyond) car market.
