I agree that we need to reduce our use of non-domestic energy sources, but I'm not sure that having DARPA be in charge of funding will a good solution. In my experience, a big percentage of the money ends up going to firms that have mastered writing good proposals and/or have the right mix of minority and disadvantaged ownership. I'd rather place my bets on the marketplace and, at most, well targeted tax policy. Basically, I believe in (John) Doerr over DARPA.
