Personally, I have had no greater success or failure with online personals than with any other means, even using places like Match.com and Yahoo Personals. Online or off, I think we have to first get past the need to pick partners on appearance and get to know the whole person.
I do the personals myself online and I have been on a many dates from them. It is not for everyone to do. I have met two of my closest gay male friends here in the area where I live through a personal. TLH, I could not agree more it is about D&A when dealing with some the nuts who respond to your personanl ad. I am so sick of the passive approach to love I could vomit. The "I'll wait til' he/she comes along" syndrome has left way too many socially available brothers (and sisters) alone, bitter and frustrated with love and the prospects of attaining it.
