Such a story, Christy! Thank you for adding to the dimensionality of "The Invitation" and to the deep beauty of David Whyte's work as a presence in the world.

Hi Dan! I like to know sometimes what has gone on "backstage" in the making of a piece -- even to see what was scratched out in the process.
A wonderful part of getting to spend a day with David Whyte is that there is ample time for him to tell the story underneath each poem he recites, which very much deepens for me the metaphors he uses and gives me an even more vivid image of the places his poems come from.

Hi Christy...
How very cool to be in that place and spend time with my favorite poet!
I love that piece and have always wondered if there was a connection to the Invitation...
...I want to know..... an invitation to intimacy....
Thanks for this.... mike

Hi Mike!
the questions and stories that David gave us are still ripening in the back of my mind, and I will post some of the notes I scribbled down, as soon as I have a chance. An "invitation to intimacy" is a perfect description for the way I experienced the workshop on the interior level..thank you!

Lovely, Christy .. thanks for sharing this with us. I have very strong memories of being absolutely captivated by David's work from about 1995 through 1999.
I'd argue that his light and love are more necessary than ever today, and I am ashamed to admit that I have really let all that has happened since about 2002 get to me. I tend to be much more cynical most of the time these days than i was 6 - 10 years ago. I don't want to be, and I assume I will evolve out of that cynicism fairly soon .. in fact, I'd say that observbing my own patterns of reading and writing, the prognosis is good !
thanks again.

Hi there dear Jon,
thank you for coming by! yes, I agree that your prognosis is good -- saying out loud your desire to shift your way of thinking is brave and powerful medicine, remembering that what grows is what we choose to nourish with our attention... and it feels like overall there is a big wave ending on the shore and other ones building up momentum.
be well,
christy |
