Thanks Christy,
Nice way to start Christmas Eve. It appears Will's Medicine Bag has grown.
Hmmm... actually I think this may suggest that I'm just now seeing the fuller range of his Medicine. So then I begin to wonder what would it be like if we had an educational process that was a mixture of both our Medicine and the unique Medicine that each student brings to the mix, and what an impact that would have on the Healing Arts. Hmmm... and what conversations do we need to begin and sustain to get us there?
Please give my best to Will. Happy Holiday.
Be Well,
Dan

Hey Dan!
I like your train of wondering, as usual. And that image of the Medicine Bag. I imagine that each person who makes their way into the profession/community brings many treasures with them, some of which are obviously beautiful and useful, and others of which need polishing, or just patience, or don't emerge until they've steeped in & combined with the environment of the community's medicine for years.
Like a lot of our friends and colleagues, Will is one of those who arrived with extraordinary talent, and also underwent a lot of intense polishing in his years of medical school - not, I'm guessing, because of the curriculum, but just because of how life was happening during those years!
If we could help to create conditions that fostered and supported that kind of process...a good idea to talk about some more in the New Year!
Happy Holidays!

The full range of one’s Medicine
The Medicine Bag
Each person brings many treasures with them
Some obviously beautiful and useful
Others need polishing, patience, or time
Steeping in
Combining with
The community's medicine
Undergoing intense polishing
in the years of medical school
…curriculum, how life is happening
An educational process
that is a mixture
of both our Medicine
and the unique Medicine
that each student brings to the mix
Creating conditions
that foster and support
this kind of process
Impacting the Healing Arts
What conversations do we need to begin and sustain to get us there?

Thank you dear Ashley for your poetry-seeing ways...which brings me back to Dan's remark that he is "just now seeing the fuller range of (Will's) Medicine" -
There's something about the seeing (seeing the poetry, seeing the fuller range) that is essential, and which is a discipline in itself, and is a component of the mentoring perspective that we've talked about.
What conversations do we need to begin and sustain to get us there?

Hi dear Chris, new papa!
Whenever I learn about someone's talents, especially someone I have known for a while, I wonder who/what I have also been missing out on.
love to you & your gals,
