The kaftan looks beautiful, I think I may have to make one too. I made the easy raglan sleeve sweater from that Debbie Bliss baby knits book, and it also came out a little short and stumpy looking (though beautifully soft!). Perhaps it's just a Debbie Bliss baby knits thing.

that baby kaftan is pretty jolly nice! I keep seeing it and I think how mad I've not commented! And I can see your cute felt cubes whilst I comment here too. I've always like those :)

Aahh - the dreaded increases and edges - one of those things which, as you say, comes with experience. A good general rule is to NEVER do increases and decreases right at the edge of anything which will have something done to it, eg seamed, fringed, turned in for a hem/facing etc - you get the idea. If you look carefully at European knitting stuff (eg Sandra mag, and old Mon Tricot and Burda patterns), you'll see that they always have a selvedge stitch on edges to be seamed. Two stitches in makes a nice looking edge, and 2 or 3 stitches in for decreases can be quite decorative, specially if you do them the 'wrong' way, ie left-leaning on the left side, and right leaning on the right. Whatever, just remember to give yourself something easy to sew!!

It is really lovely, and I especially agree the yarn is a delight to knit and the feel of the finished fabric is wonderfully soft. I'll be interested to see if it pills on you. The aran weight does, though someone at Wool Baa told me the heavy the weight, the more the pill, so yours might fare better. I think the colour is perfection!
