Maybe you can use a combination of existing, custom and IKEA cabinet? We hung IKEA kitchen cabinets in two of our bedrooms and found that to be very well made for the price. They went together easily and swallowed up a lot of stuff, including Japanese pattern books. :-)

So, funny- we are in pre-planning with for our kitchen right now too... (it's bathroom remodel this year-kitchen next) I spent a whole day fooling around with the IKEA planner... and although I think we will probably not go with IKEA either. It was a great negotiating tool for showing dh what I was talking about...

love the comment re client negotiations (how dare husbands have an opinion on these things!!). could try meyer consulting engineers (i have always found them the cheapest around and okay to work with. or david novak & assoc in richmond but not as affordable).enjoy!
