I've been unsuccessfully trying to capture google maps (website, not google earth) satellite and hybrid maps using "print screen" and "MS Paint". It hasn't worked with either IE6 or Opera browsers despite having the option in Opera. FastStone (portable) did the trick! AND....it floats on top.
Thanks, Clif

After trying multiple screen capture utilities, I'd agree that this is the best. The feature that sets this one apart from the rest is the inclusion of an edit mode. From there you can annotate, highlight, and add graphics to the captured image.

In addition to the comments above,I'd also like to mention that it uses very little memory in the SysTray. It's one of the few apps I allow on Startup because of this.Even running,it uses less memory than most other screen capture apps. The scroll feature is just great as well.

FastStone Capture has been on my computer for quite awhile.
For the simple functionability already mentioned.
The one tool no one ever mentions is the Screen Magnifier.
Even it has options to set the magnification level on the settings page.
And it's as convenient to use as the rest of the program. Left click to use it, right click to exit the Screen Magnifier.

In my opinion, FastStone Capture is not longer freeware

FS Capture recently became Shareware. You can only try it for 30 days.
I just updated the article and found the last freeware version of it.
