Why run a third-party app to do something that XP already does better? AND without taking up any Desktop real estate:

Hi 1101doc,
That's a good question. You could ask the 40,000 people who downloaded it at download.com last week. LOL
Personally, I tried it for a short time and realized I just don't work that way.
It's very apparent that some people do like it.

It's just that many folks don't know about the toolbar customization feature of XP. Three more fully cusomizable Quick launch toolbars for any one-click shortcuts I want. I really don't know how i lived without them.

I make good use of the QuickLaunch and I keep my TaskBar in autohide.

I temporarily disabled the auto-hide function to show all 3 extra toolbars open at once. Normally all that shows is my Wallpaper and Taskbar. Could auto-hide that as well, but like to check my stats without moving my mouse.

Looks like you almost never need to get into your start menu. That's why I have so many in my QuickLaunch.
I tried auto-hiding on the sides, but I kept triggering them by accident and it was aggravating.
Thanks for the quick peek.

My start menu is where I keep the shortcuts to regedit, cmd, group policy, msconfig, event viewer, and others. Even with all my toolbars there's never enough room for all my shortcuts, now at 290 and counting.

@1101doc
What do you thing of this Start Menu utility?
http://lee-soft.com/
I tried it and it does give you a great way to search for your shortcuts. The load time may be a reason I won't use it.

I will download and try it during my next Returnil session. I'm not much interested in "make it look like Vista" stuff though.
I must have a hundred (or more) apps in my "Good Ideas" folder. Only rarely do I actually install/use one. Most recently I adopted both Actual booster and Hostsman. Both excellect little utilities.
Another little goodie is Tooltipfix. Apparently only available from Rapid Share: http://rs278.rapidshare.com/
file...lTipFix.exe#dlt
All it does (and it does it instantly every time) is bring the hidden tooltips out from behing the Taskbar.
Got it from Raymond: http://www.raymond.cc/blog/ Sometimes a little too close to the edge of propriety, (and sometimes over) but has lots of "finds."

That tool tip fix sounds good. I don't have that problem because my taskbar is always hidden. I've seen it happen before.
I am familiar with Actual Booster ...

and HostsMan
http://freewarewiki.com/Hoster
Both good apps. Have fun with them.
