Gravatar Many people lose the black cursor (the thin vertical bar) amongst the black text in a Word doc when moving it around with the cursor (such as with the arrow keys). What would be great is a software utility that lets you change the color and thickness of the cursor. That way we could make it a red cursor with the black text and white background.

Vippy is a similar application, but the cursor only changes to red when the mouse is hovering over text and changing to a red cursor. It would be great if the same could be done when working with the keyboard in a text document.

Gravatar Is there a free program that does what MS Outlook does? Contacts and Calendar functions.

Gravatar Anyone know of a good app that automatically closes predefined windows (e.g. popup Windows)? I'm talking about desktop windows, NOT browser windows.

Gravatar Nathan wrote: Is there a free program that does what MS Outlook does? Contacts and Calendar functions.

I believe that Thunderbird with Lightening will approach the functionality of Outlook.

One fellow wrote up a comparison of Outlook vs Thunderbird.

You'll have to read to find out which will fit you best. For me, there is no contest. Free vs $$$. LOL

Hi Todd, the closest thing I can think of is Winsonar by Zancart. It will only allow programs that you mark as safe to run.

However, the fellows at DonationCoder can probably whip up a Coding Snack for you that will automatically close windows that you designate to never run.

This sounds like something that they could make for you in a couple of days or less.

Have fun!

Gravatar Todd, For closing windows, I use a freeware scripting program called autohotkey ( www.autohotkey.com ). A script to do what you ask would look a little like this (anything after semicolons are comments):
---------------------------
loop 999 ;run 999 times
{
SetTitleMatchMode, 2 ;match anywhere in title
WinWait, TITLE, ; match TITLE
IfWinNotActive, TITLE, , WinActivate, TITLE, ; if TITLE isn't the active window, make it
WinWaitActive, TITLE, ; wait a few seconds till it's active
Sleep, 1000 ; wait one second
Send, {ALTDOWN}{F4}{ALTUP} ; send ALT+F4 (shortcut to close window)
}
---------------------
It comes with a recorder so you can just do what you want to be repeated and it will record and play it back when you want it to. The DonationCoder guys use it all the time.

Gravatar Do you have an url for free downloadable & then printable calanders, you know, the ones with really nice pictures or at least some decent graphic's so I can spruce up my office wall...?
Thanks,

Gravatar Is there a free software to sync google calendar with mobile Nokia 6021?

Gravatar Hello. Why aren't you highlighting RunScanner which I submitted a long time ago?

http://www.runscanner.net/

Because Temarc says it no good? Why are you even listening to him, he's not even a MS MVP (and most of the MS MVPS are not that good anyway, and I know one who is totally clueless and barely above that of a newbie).

Still not all MS MVPs are clueless fortunately, for example Tony Klein, has praised Runscanner extensively. He should know , his expertise is in listing and researching autostart launch points...

One thing you should be careful about is that "experts" are very very limited in their area of expertise. Someone good at reading hijackthis logs and removing malware is not usually someone good at evaluating security software, they are totally different domains.

The term "security expert" is really a oxymoron, nobody knows enough to really have that title. At best you have people very knowledgeable in one limited area..

The problem is with swell headed "security experts" trying to sound if they know everything.... and giving their opinions on domains that they are not expert enough, while maintaining the same authoritative tone.

Gravatar LOL@Lusher

Thanks for the opinion. Actually Tom did get an MSMVP two years ago. Tom won't tell you he's a security expert, but he knows a heckuva lot more than I do about it. He's also a great guy, whom I've known for many years and even met in person.

RunScanner? Gosh, I just don't recall it. I'll take a look at it and maybe follow up with you later.
.

Gravatar Well he sure isn't a MSMVP now.

He isn't so bad for a so called "antispyware fighter", but like many of his irk, he is pretty shortsighted, and thinks that reading Hijackthis! logs is the be all and end all of security.

And of course, the biggest boggyman to him is the so called auomtated log reader that would put him out of business (figuratively speaking, i know he changes nothing, but it's emotional need i'm talking about), and so when he reviewed runscanner, the only thing he could see was the so called automated analysis. Never mind it was the most minor part of RS and it had huge warning signs everywhere that it was not meant to replace an expert (it's just a way improved hijackthis).

But no, all he wanted to do was to ensure that runscanner would not replace his "expertise", not that any software claims too anyway..

Gravatar Well Lusher as is normal you're just spewing off at the mouth to hear yourself speak.

I 'AM' a current MVP, if you bothered to have a look at all you'd know that.

As for RunScanner, I've never given it any sort of 'formal' review what so ever. My concerns about automated HJT log analysis is one shared with most all security sites, tho I'm sure you'll be quick to point to the half dozen or so that do use it.

And that concern has nothing to do with 'putting me out of business' figuratively or to feed any emotional needs you think I require.

I've been back and forth with Geert several times about RS and use it in my research to display some things HJT does not. Again, if you bothered to look on my site, you'd know that. But you got scared off because JeanInMontana was too quick to point out the things that most everyone else has pointed out about you and your posts at various forums. Many of which you have either been banned from, or warned at for any number of reasons.

Do you know of any forums where I've had any such problems?

So please, before yo go off running at the mouth, at least do some research...oh wait, if you actually did that, you'd probably not be banned or warned off so many sites, cuz then your posts would actually be informative as opposed to being full of non truthshalf truths and general rhetoric as they usually are.

I'll not address you again in this setting as I know your posts are designed to invoke heated debate instead of useful discussion.

Reminds me of someone who just likes to 'hear' themselves talk.

Gravatar Does anyone know of a good, free converter that takes a PDF document and changes it into word?

Thanks

Gravatar Sorry Jerry. No.

You might want to check Tomahawk PDF. It may be a good work-around.

Looks like they may not have a free version there anymore.

Gravatar is there a program anywhere that will convert video files and then join them as one file. for example: 2 mpeg files into avi files and then into 1 large avi file.

Gravatar Hi Ronnie,

I saw a recent review of VideoDub. I think it may work for you.
