I am curious if this might exist?
We know how to view the events and errors and click the link to go to Microsoft site to find the cure which is actually a run around and leads us to never never land...
Is there a program that can tell us in plain English what the problem might be and where or how to check it in detail?
Tonight I got an error for the first time on my new puter and neither Microsoft nor Google search brought me anything worth going for anything to try or do to find what it is, why I got it, what I should do... I mean atleast a lead in the right direction would help.
Has it gotten to the point that mumble jumble around the bush is tech support now?
The numbers mean something, surely there is something out there that can assist. Which is more than we get from the makers of the machines lol...
And no I don't want to pay $35 dollars for them to beat around the bush verbally lol...
Anyhows, that would be worth gold to many of us.
Thanks Clif and Happy Holidays to you and your family. Enjoy your time off.
Hugs my friend... Can

Hi Candy,
I'm thinking you might have a nice dream there. Not sure if it's possible either.
Try checking here:

Season's Greetings, Clif!
I was wondering if there's an app available that can make it easier to fix ISP branding of Internet Explorer and Outlook Express without having to mess with the registry.
Scot Finnie summarizes the manual process quite nicely here:
http://www.scotsnewsletter.com/b...of/
ispbrnds.htm
but I was hoping that some enterprising coder has created a user-friendly GUI that makes the fix that much easier.
Many thanks!

Hi Greg, you found a good source for that fix. I'm guessing that there probably is a tweak utility like TweakUI that will do this.
At this point, I can't tell you where to find one.
If you follow Scot's instructions, you can safely make those changes.

Guess what, Clif? I found something quite close to what I was looking for:
"ToolbarCop" at:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm
(Screen shot here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/images...toolbarcop.png)
It's freeware and is hosted at a variety of well-known sites although the "SecurityWonks" download link is dead.
(NOTE: As I understand it, this app only addresses IE browser extensions and *not* Outlook Express.)
Cheers!!

Sorry, Clif, I was wrong.
"ToolbarCop" doesn't even come close to what I was looking for. I guess I was too eager to proclaim its merits before I actually tested it.
Signed,
Embarrassed

Yes, I'd heard of Toolbar Cop before and it's for removing toolbars and BHOs in IE. It was pretty handy in IE5 and IE6. IE7 already has a pretty decent toolbar manager in it. MS finally wised up.
Thanks for chiming in. I'll keep my eyes open for a good tweaking tool.
