I have over 100 business forms in Word format. These all have tables and graphics.
I want to produce a PDF manual of all these documents for circulation to branches
I need something that will do this and still maintain the documents layout integrity

I have been using "PaperlessPrinter" for a number of years. It produces PDF files that retain the original formating. Combine your "100 business forms" into a single document, possibly with a TOC at the bedinning, and print it with "PaperlessPrinter". "PaperlessPrinter" acts like another printer but outputs in file format.

A "safe" way to allow trusted individuals to upload files to my computer over the Internet. I would prefer that they have to sign in with a password.

Hi Blayage,
I'm sure I've seen just what you are looking for, but I couldn't find the exact fit.
Try FileZilla Server. Here's a decent tutorial.

For ease of use, you could open a free private wiki at PBwiki.com and only those with a password could upload files to it. The drawbacks are that you are limited to 10mb and the files are hosted here.

Hi Clif! I really enjoy your newsletters. I'm looking for a program that will enlarge my digital photos without making them blurry or pixelly. Do you know of anything like that?
Thanx

Sorry Mary, no, I don't know anything that will fix pixelation very well.
I'd guess that there are tools available, but graphics is one of my "weak" areas.
You might want to ask my friend Candy at http://cherokeecandy.com/home.html
Just scroll to the bottom to email her.

@Tony - PDFCreator is a freeware and open source PDF printer. I like it because there are no watermarks and it just works. http://sourceforge.net/projects/...cts/pdfcreator/
@Baylayage - I've used BadBlue before. It sets up a webserver on your PC and allows filesharing and uploading. The personal edition is freeware.

@Mary Powers - I use irfanview (freeware) and resample instead of resize. Resizing makes the pixels bigger, resampling adds more pixels so the image looks more natural. If the output comes out blurry, you can use a sharpen filter to make it less. Most freeware image programs these days offer resizing, I suggest you test a few. I can recommend Photofiltre, Paint.NET and The Gimp. All are freeware and excellent image programs.

@Mary Powers
When you enlarge an image larger than its native size, you are basically asking the computer to create pixels where there are none. This is pretty difficult for the computer to do because you are asking it to create something where there was nothing. The best solution is to take photos with a camera that has more pixels to start with. However, I have experimented a little with "Image Analyzer" and found its method of resizing photos is better than other programs. If you decide to try it, be sure to also download the plugin called "Fractal Interpolation" which adds artificial details when you enlarge a photo.

@Mary Powers
I won a copy of "Genuine Fractals 5" at a local photo seminar. I didn't install it for a few months. Glad I did. It does an amazing job of enlarging digital files "without making them blurry or pixelly". It will install on Photoshop CS2 or CS3 and Photoshop Elements 4 or higher.

I tried "stitching" together all the word documents into one large document but there are problems with format loss (using "Object Insert" and pasting and it takes days to do.
Also, If I update one or two of the individual documents I have to go into the big "master" document too.
It works … but I wish there was an easier (read quicker) way (or a program) that will do this for me.
PS Paperless printer has problems faithfully reproducing tables and graphics.

WOW! Thanks for all your help. I have a lot of reading ahead. I got an old Win2000 machine to dedicate to the project. Now I need to find which of these servers will give me the flexibility to do what I want.
