Gravatar Thanks Bill. I actually paid Haloscan a donation to get rid of the ads. It was cheap and I have no qualms supporting such a great product.

Gravatar Hello,
I really like your site and am hoping you can help me. I am an online gamer (LOTRO) and have been searching, trying out, and not finding an overall free security (free) suite that is not a memory hog, does not get in the way of my gaming, and truly works. I need to be covered from allware (mal, spy, etc.) and from viruses, trojans and the like, I just need all out protection and a feeling of well being. Can you help me find a suite or programs that will fit this bill? I truly hate Norton as I had 360 and Internet security 2008 and WOW was that a huge mistake, I am very unsure about AVG, Zone Alarm as they seem to use up valuble memory and resources. Please help. Thank you.

Gravatar Hey Mark - ALL security software is quite heavy on resources, the couple of free suites I know about are especially so. What capacity RAM do you have installed? It is often more beneficial to increase hardware memory resources than to try and skimp on software.
If it is any help; I am running Avast anti virus, Threatfire (behaviour based) and Spyware Terminator with 2gb RAM in Vista Home Premium. Avast and Threatfire are both comparatively light on resources....all are free.
A highly recommended commercial product that offers tip top protection with one of the lightest footprints available is Eset's NOD32.

Might be worth the investment for you.

cheers..........JIMBO

Gravatar Hi Mark. Jimbo offers good advice. You'll have to take some kind of a hit on your resources to stay protected.

I like AVG and Online Armor Firewall/Hips.
