I'm looking for a freeware program that enables me to produce simple good-looking charts (for instance temperature against time), where you can copy the data across from a spreadsheet. I find the charting available within spreadsheet software to be rather limited.
Any suggestions welcome.

Regarding tabs in IE6:
I take it you've tried the IE "shells" (Maxthon, etc.) that have Tabs built in and didn't like them?

As Will suggested above, Maxthon and
Avant browser both are great if you are using IE6.
In addition, I've heard that the Yahoo Toolbar adds tabs. I use the Windows Live Toolbar to give me tabs in older PCs. It's works ok, not great, just ok.

I was not able to find any free chart creation software, but I'll keep my eye out for it.

Hello David Syme,
You asked: Looking for freeware that will track stocks and shares for me.
I found three that might work. The last is ad supported, but you might like it anyway.
TakeStock
StockBuddy
Medved Quote Tracker

I am looking for a freeware programme that allows for PDF files to be opened for editing or saved as a rtf, text or doc file.

Mike, I believe that the newest version of Open Office has support for pdf files. There is a plug in that can be installed that will allow this. I haven't used it yet, but I read about it. Has anyone tried it?

Hi Clif
Thanks for the help regarding freebies for stocks and shares. Stockbuddy seems to have a problem. When I try to install it it comes up with an error 5 msg - whatever that is.
Can U help or did you just do a search for freeware apps.
Again many thanks.

Thanks to Tony for his charting suggestions. I have actually tried Teechart-Office, but found it very user unfriendly.
The best program that I've found to date is Mathmatix, but again it's a long way short of ideal, in particular with regard to the inputting (copy/pasting) of data.

Re: OpenOffice .pdf editing plugin:

It's not ready for prime time yet.
I use Zamzar, which is an online file conversion app.
If the .pdf was made from a word processor or text editor (meaning it isn't an image) in some cases you can copy/paste text out of it.

@david syme:
Yes, I just did a search. I only recommended those because they were from a generally safe source.
