Seeking a program that will easily re-code mp3 files to lower bit rates. My hearing is not good so I can't appreciate files encoded at anything above 160 KB. I would like to be able to reduce some of the 320s to 160 or 128 to get more on songs a portable player.
I'm looking for audio recording software that will let me record sound from a mixing board that has several mic inputs as well as a keyboard and aux. I assume the mixer will connect to an aux input on my PC's soundcard.

It's a great site, and what I'm looking for may be there, but it's kinda like looking for the needle in the haystack. I was hoping that someone might personally know of such a program.

I need a simple check printing software so that instead of writing checks, I just print & sign.
I think that I now have a good chance of finding a program that will recode MP3s to lower bit rates. I had tried Google searches before, but I wasn't using the right search words. The key words are MP3 and downsample or resample. It appears that the Lame program will do the job.

I asked Jimi about this and he wrote me back with the text below. He says what you are asking for doesn't exist yet but some of the software he recommends comes close.
it is to be connected to the line in of the pc's soundcard....it goes like this...
line out of pc to record in on mixer...line out of mixer to pc line input.
control room outs to monitoring....but it depends on the mixer and soundcard.
