Comments for Clif Notes Newsletter

Gravatar I've been getting this newsletter for a looong time now.I really appreciate all the thought and the effort.I've tried a lot of the freeware and it works just great.Good job! You're a great guy dude!
Only thing that confuses me though is the coolwebsites info.In the past You used to review websites that you personally thought were cool.and that was awesome but i don't see much of those nowadays.Anyway it does'nt take away the good that you've done for freeware wiki fans all over the world. You Rock!

Gravatar Hi Ismaeel,

Thanks for the praise. Yes, I don't review as many sites as I used to. Mostly because I don't have as much time as I used to have.
.

Gravatar Does anybody know of a decent driver update tool? Thanks much...Keith

Gravatar I try to stay away from sites like driverguide.com. I find that they mostly have useless drivers that do not work, have malware, tons of advertising, non-existent support.
Better to go straight to the source. simply go to the manufacturer's website and search for any updated drivers...
Of course, if the company is out of business, you're stuck with the driverguides of the world...

Gravatar Hello, I am in need of something to fix my Firefox. It seems to take forever to load pages including my yahoo home page. I.ve used CCleaner and defragged but still its slow. What can I do to speed it up safely? Thanks.

Gravatar MARK - Which version of Firefox are you using? There is a great little add-on for up to version 2.0 called 'Fasterfox'...unfortunately, a newer version which is compatible with Firefox 3 is not yet available.
Are you on dial-up or broadband? If the latter, there are plenty of sites which offer 'tweaks' to help make FF perform faster...here is a link to just one of them:

cheers....JIMBO

Gravatar Richard...Thanks for your response. I don't know that were just exactly on the same page. What I'm looking for is a tool you can use to "scan" your system to locate drivers that need to be updated & then goes through the update process. Avanquest makes one & I saw Uniblue has one now but they are both payware. I know most of you do it manually but I'm lacking in this area of expertise. Thanks again...

Gravatar Keith:
now I know what you mean!
I recall that Cliff actually reviewed such a (free) utility not too long ago. I just don't remember what is was called..
Cliff?

Gravatar Again, my thanks Richard. That one got by me somehow. I left one band & joined another, and, my life has been a bit hectic of late. I'll go back through & see if I can find it. Have a good one...Keith

Gravatar Hi Richard and Keith. Here's the stuff on scanning for drivers.

Richard

Gravatar Thanks again Richard. Clif, thanks for checking in & giving us the link...not to mention all you do to help make computing a better experience!

Gravatar This new program, in BETA testing i think right now as of oct 25 08 when i found it, it scans your computer, identifies any driver, program updates needed, searches for them, downloads them and then installs them. I had 12 outdated drivers, programs it updated, worked on my xp. link is http://www.radarsync.com/

Gravatar Does anyone know of a simple address book program freeware that will allow you to simply have addresses and print them.

Gravatar Hi John,

Assuming you are running Windows, you already have a simple program for keeping addresses. It's known as WAB, or Windows Address Book.

You might ask how you can print from it. It can be simple, or it can be complex.

Either use the built in print function, or export the address book to a CSV file (comma separated text).

If you export all fields to a CSV, you can import it into an Excel or similar spreadsheet program. I recommend OpenOffice (new 3.0 version is just out).

Once in a spreadsheet, you have a great deal of power over what you can show and print.

Have fun!
