I need something to organize personal writing/research projects. Ideally, it would have a basic to-do-style interface to list ongoing project, someday-maybe projects, and random ideas. It would also allow me to create detailed subsections for active projects, within which I could organize research materials, set up links (including to both files and folders on my own system), and do writing. And, ideally, it would allow cross-linking of related materials between one project and another.
I've tried everything out there, so far as I know. Tree-style organizers, including some pretty obscure ones (KeyNote, KBase, TheGuide, NoteCase, OrgaNote.) NeoMem (which comes closer than most in some ways, since it lets you link to folders, but which is fairly slow to customize and not well set up for writing). A whole slew of to-do programs, running the gamut from Easy To-Do to CP To-Do List to GTD applications like Thinking Rock. Personal wikis from WikidPad to ZuluPad to TiddlyWiki. Mind-mappers like FreeMind. Outliners like Ecco and TKOutline. And a few unclassifiables like Idea! and Correlate.
I've used all of those either separately or in various combinations -- and I've tried and quickly discarded a lot more -- but I've never found anything that enables me to keep everything I'm working on centralized in one place, with separate project files so it doesn't slow to a crawl but also with a high degree of interconnectivity.
If anyone has a solution, I'd sure like to hear it.

My Notes Keeper lets you organize material both in a tree and in tabs. You can link to web addresses, other nodes in the program, files and folders on your computer.
I used to use KeyNote, but it was not good with links. My Notes Keeper works perfectly with links and does just about everything KeyNote does.
Now I use My Notes Keeper for writing, editing and organizing. I too looked long and hard for a program that would be good for complex writing tasks - and this is it.
I don't know if it will serve your exact needs, but it is worth a look.

I am looking for software that will allow me to batch convert the baud rate of mp3 files. My problem is that I have many mp3 files that are 320k, and I would like to convert them to 128k in one fell swoop. Of course I can do this now, but only one at a time. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Howard,
I recommend dbpoweramp for batch conversions.

You may have to download a copy of the lame mp3 encoder separately if I recall correctly.

Best of luck to you.

Is there a file renamer that will let me change the file name of several files by adding the same word to the front of each file without otherwise changing the names?
I hope that makes sense.

Hey, PegM - Try 'THE Rename'
Homepage: http://www.herve-thouzard.com/the-rename (in French)

therename.zip
I've used it for years - it might take a few minutes to get used to, but it is a VERY powerful renaming tool.

I want a newsreader that integrates with Mozilla Firefox so that as soon as Firefox launches so does the newsreader, which then pops up & gives me the latest news feeds. I've installed Sage as an addon but am not sure whether it does this. Thx.

Hi Lei,
No need to install anything. Just make either Google Reader or NewsGator your homepage.
As soon as you launch Firefox, your feeds will be displayed.

Hi Clif
I've recently found "Google Doc's" below is a "Tour"

tour1.html
You can send out links to files and get other to collaborate with you.
I use it with friends here in the UK, when trying to help sort out their PC
Here is a Utube Video similar to how I have set up my "Google Docs"
