Ismaeel, our local Wal-Mart and even a supermarket have machines that automate printing of photos from DVDs. Selection is done on-screen. Help is available nearby. Lots of size choice available. And it's cheap.

I have a friend (formerly MS Mole) who is recovering movies (JVC camera) from a disk. He has them converted to PPM format (I know, PPM is for single images, but work with me here) and needs to convert the files to a playable movie format for a computer.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Anyone know if GIMP would work?

Looks like Super Video converter supports PPM as an input format.

Thanks Clif. Super looks like a great find with extraordinary versatility.
Mole has declined some wonderful enticements to rejoin MS, but he refuses to put up with the crap any more. Too many good ones are leaving.

Every day when I boot windows (XP & Vista) there are a set number of programs I have opened (e.g. browser, email, desktop-explorer, etc.)
I am looking for a program that will position and resize all those desktop windows to what I had previously specified. The objective being to have my desktop windows configured exactly the same way after every boot. Sure, Windows remembers some of them, but being Windows it is never complete or reproducible. Also, often when I shutdown the desktop is in disarray after a day of work. Thanks!

Hi Andy,
I'm still looking, but I've got one utility I use every day which may help.
http://freewarewiki.com/
WinSplit...SplitRevolution
I've found that Windows often remembers the positions of apps so that may not be a problem after booting up.
Best wishes
.

Thanks for the quick response Clif. I've seen the Win Split app, but its not quite what I'm looking for.
The app I have in mind, at some point in time (e.g. right after boot up) would memorize the app (Window ID), location and size of everything on the desktop and save the data.
Later you could invoke the app and cause it restore the windows to the saved size & location.
Yes, I know windows mostly will reopen apps to their last size/position, but that is not universal. Other than MS apps, the author of each app must code for that.
The whole idea is, after a day of intense development, with the desktop in a bit of disarray, I'd like tomorrow's start up to place all my standard windows in a certain configuration right after boot in the AM.
A year or so ago I saw this app being offered on some obscure place for (yikes) $50. Whew! Haven't seen it since though and think I'd write my own before shelling out that amount.
Anyway, thanks for your help!
Andy.

Andy, WinPatrol allows you to control apps opened at startup. It has an Add button, so I would guess that adding the apps you want to startup would cause them to each load when you turn on your computer. However, they would not load in a particular order at startup as even Windows itself doesn't load its own critical files in a particular order.
Nothing guaranteed here, these are just my thoughts as I read your note.

Thanks Bill. WinPatrol provides a great set of system management functions, but none of them address managing the appearance (size & x-y position) of windows on the desktop, but thanks for the response. Andy.
