for the total sample it's +/- 2.5%.
unfortunately, scientists aren't a very influential voting block. but this isn't all that surprising. aren't you all a bunch of welfare babies, suckling off the federal grant teat?

I suspect the 6% is probably heavily older scientists, but probably shouldn't be taken as evidence that they have Republican attitudes toward science. IIRC Jim Hansen is still a Republican.

I always thought that Republican scientists were more frequently found in industry. Turns out it's true, but not to the degree that I had suspected.
