Thanks JJ! I'm glad you felt better after such a tough weekend. Your comment made me feel so good! I feel like you and the other commenters (is that a word?) on my blog are like my own private unschooling coaches. You guys are always standing by to cheer me on when I make progress and to get me back on track when I go astray. How did I get so lucky!?

But, I think it *was* perfect! Your son has such a great opportunity to learn through your learning, and growing. You are exactly where you need to be! If you had gone from sending him to shovel poop to being all-understanding, completely letting go, he would miss the gift of seeing your process.
I am *so* fully human, and my boys know that! They know the goals we're reaching for as a family... and they're aware when any of us fall short. Learning how to handle that truthfully and openly gives us skills we can all use in other areas. Asking for do-overs, starting the day over, etc. have become times of laughter and connection.
I'm supposed to be working! But I'm really enjoying reading about your journey - thanks so much for sharing it!

Dear Husband and I had a tough weekend away with the kids on a big dance weekend, the only formal, competitive, schoolish thing they do. I don't like giving our happily unschooling family over to all that -- even for one weekend -- and their dad nearly pulled them out on the spot, due to a couple of unsafe situations. Tough for us behind the scenes to work out (my head and heart were pounding the whole time.)
So, just wanted to say that coming home from that to read this, is a real day-maker for me.
