Luther and Calvin were wretched sinners who were in desperate need of a Savior just like you and me. That Savior is Jesus Christ the Lord.
There is only individual salvation, and the Bible never teaches any other form. The One True and Living God is an intimately personal God. This is how He presents Himself in the Bible, therefore we as sinful men have no authority to attempt to change His revealed unchanging character with brute speculation.
The sole authority for the Christian is the Holy Bible alone which testifies of, and points toward Jesus Christ our Lord!
Thankfully the Lord in His infinite wisdom and from His oceans of mercy has appointed some men as overseers, teachers, pastors, etc. within His true church to shepherd His little flock according to the admonition of scripture. This is a glorious truth and so long as these men continue in Christ, and adhere strictly to the 66 books of the Holy Bible, serving the Lord with all gladness, humility, and reverence then they will bring much glory to God by the equipping the saints for the service of the King.
Of course it has pleased God to save individual sinners and add them unto the church as He sees fit. Individual born again Christians are called "living stones" which are fitly joined together by the Holy Spirit, and are built upon the Chief Cornerstone - Jesus Christ - Who is alone the Head of the church!

The God of the Bible is the most anti-personal God there is...well, if one takes a modern definition of "personal".
You state that God presents Himself as a intimately personal God in the Bible, when in fact He presents Himself as a God of order, hierarchy, much beyond our comprehension.
I am not sure which Bible you are reading - KJV? That is my favorite English version, though I also enjoy Luther's German translation that has more than the 66 books. You don't have that one, do you? You don't speak German, do you?
Back to the point, even Mariam did not enjoy such a personal relationship with God, and she was taken with Leprosy when she tried to obtain it. Similarly, the missionaries in the New Testament wrote back to the council to see how they should behave with regards to certain practices.
Throughout the entirety of history, order is the mode of God. Individualism, rebellion and a want of a "personal relationship", without the obedience has been the downfall of man. Have you had a wife who wants you to submit to her because she "loves you"? She wants a perverted personal relationship - similarly to what you want with God.
To be rescued from hell, a man must in fact become a warrior poet, and a woman a mother. It is impossible to enter heaven without becoming the shadow of the hyper-masculine, and these two professions are the only such shadow.
By the way, you sound like you support Harold Camping. Is this true?
He also worships the "66" books of the Bible.
