Welcome to Texas! I came here in 1965 to get my degree in architecture at the U of Houston and intended to move back to Chicago after graduation. With my sister and brother already here for college, too, Texas became my home.
I found Houston more gay friendly in '65 than Chicago which had to follow restrictive Illinois liquor laws (no touching between males, no dancing, or a liquor license invalidated). After being fired from two different construction companies in 6 years in "librul" California, I moved back to Texas in 1982 where I could be myself again. Dallas has a vibrant gay community, too.

Hey Grant:
I will still live in Tulsa, but thanks. I'll be a dual citizen, I guess.

Grant,
Wow, I'd love to hear about your story of being fired in California. How did that happen?
