Great summary on the bankruptcies. I work for a company that manages and track gift cards, and we've been examining how customers need to be protected and informed. I recently blogged about similar gift card issues on savvywallet.com. This economic meltdown will only get worse, if consumers aren't even allowed to spend their cards. There will be a lot of distrust in this industry. Last year $100B was spent in gift cards, and $8B was lost and unredeemed. I'm anxious to see what the numbers are for 2008. I also read that Blockbuster and Circuit city are proposing a merge. I wonder how THAT will affect things.
