Tom,
You are correct that this is part of a larger war/battle that is going on in America.
In my opinion, the root of the problem is the distortion of the meaning of the word discrimination.
Discrimination used to mean the act of recognizing differences. For example, the ability to make a moral judgement regarding good and evil depends on one's ability to discriminate.
But today discrimination seems to be considered equivilent to bigotry and is not allowed. This has caused many to lazily slide into moral nihilism and/or moral relativism.
Perhaps this clash of definitions regarding the word discrimination really represents the difference between blue state America and red state America.

Until this last election I hadn't seen a positive change in this country for a very long time. It was wonderful for me to see the "Religious Right" get up off their knees and do something useful. The bible says "Faith without works is dead". I was heartsick when Clinton was elected the first time, and by the second time I was pretty much convinced that nobody was paying attention. I think GWB is an excellent president and I pray for him regularly, as I have for all our presidents, even the ones I didn't like. (maybe especially the ones I didn't like) I have been very discouraged in the past about the direction our nation is going, but I have more hope now than I have in years. That's because of you, and people like you who aren't afraid of the PC gestapo. Keep up the good work.

Another example of PC-minded liberals trying to rewrite history in an effort to make America more secular.
"A California teacher has been barred by his school from giving students documents from American history that refer to God -- including the Declaration of Independence."
I hope that more people of faith (is that "pc" enough?) fight back against blatant acts to suppress the mention of God in our schools.

As for the Boy Scout issue - it isn't a "done deal" yet - a Florida Senator introduced a resolution urging the Defense Department to continue its traditional support of the Boy Scouts.
And what is amazing about this story - the senator (Bill Nelson) is a Democrat.
"That support includes spending for national and world jamborees, allowing Scouts to hold troop meetings on bases and letting military personnel participate in summer camps as adult leaders without losing leave time, said the AP report. "
