Well, for me happiness is based partly on productivity, so when I say quitting blogging made me happier, I also say it made me more productive. For me it's not so much an issue of what people see but of how I budget my time, but you're right that blogging doesn't pay the bills, prove results in number theory, or make law firms likelier to hire you.
Anyway, I'll miss your blog, but life always comes first.
