Gravatar Bruce - I wouldn't be surprised if the ministers so wearing wore such garb all the time. Don't really see how such garb differs from the uniformed look of the Nation of Islam muscle that's "protected" some housing projects...or that purple cammy stuff so popular at Raven's home games.

Gravatar It's the public paramilitary display with intent to purge the immoral unwashed masses that freaks me out.

Gravatar Check out the new Christian militarism, replete with military garb.

What's wrong Bruce, the old Christian militarism not good enough for you? They have military garb and even a flag embossed with their "Blood and Fire" motto. They're against the gays and the booze too.

Gravatar You know I'm not at all certain that the right-wing Christian side of the house is all at fault for this. Don't get me wrong, I am from the Goldwater-wing of the party and resist those that are trying to make is until something we should not be. But this had more to do with an attempted power plan and just bad crisis management than it did with an attempt to create a theocratic party.

Gravatar I guess I did a poor job at blogging. I was hoping to have you laughing not chilled. Next time I will be sure to add more fire and brimstone.

Gravatar David, you were funny. It was I that failed to add the sarcastic wink to my writing re the second paragraph. Peace.

Gravatar Mr. X, that is a slam dunk response. HAT TIP.

Gravatar a few points.

1) This is hardly a large movement.

2) As far as this goes it would seem that you should be a lot more concerned about NOI's Fruit of Islam which does have a reputation for doing what it is implied this particular group might do.

3) As a Roman Catholic and a conservative Republican, I can say I think the idea that social conservatives are even mostly evangelical protestants is just lunacy. The Pro-Live movement is overwhelmingly Roman Catholic and has been for decades. On all social issues in the Republican party you will find Roman Catholics in large numbers.

4) I don't think most social conservatives run away from their religious views. I don't. While not a scientific sample, I'd submit that I know more of us than most on the secular side.

Gravatar While pro-lifers may be led by Catholics, the more overarching Dominionist movement isn't. Patrick Henry College is Evangelical, and so are the major fundamentalist leaders: Robertson, Reed, Graham, Falwell, Kennedy, Dobson, LaHaye. It's true that Dominionism is more Catholic-friendly than old-style fundamentalism, but it's still very much a Protestant movement.

Gravatar I am more of a Papa Johns kind of guy.
