They'll make it. In fact, the NFL will likely grant an extention of the blackout deadline due to the labor day holiday. Now, if only I could get my free cable back, I wouldn't have to mess with the stupid rabbit ears.

possible way to get free cable...Pay Cox for cable modem, don't pay for cable television. Split the coaxial cable going from the wall to your computer and run a cable to your television. disclaimer, this would be against the law and Timshel in no way advocates ripping off cable companies. I don't even know for sure if that works for Cox, but I've definitely seen it done from people with other cable providers.
Hope the saints get the blackout lifted, didn't realize it was a possibility.

The blackout wont' be lifted; the NFL didn't grant an extension. The game could still sell out. I bet it does.
As for the cable modem trick to get free cable, that doesn't work.

Although now it looks like we will indeed be blacked out. Under an earlier scheme I had season tickets... but things tend to go awry in strange ways. Oh well.

Doesn't WWL (or whatever TV station stands to broadcast the game) usually buy empty seats? Or are these just too many empty seats?

I don't think there that large of number of tickets left (3500) or so. Usually, the Saints solicit local companies to buy it like the television affiliate broadcasting the game.
In this case, I think the Saints are trying to still sell some season tickets. A season ticket cost $150 for the whole season. That's $15 per game. But that same ticket bought on an individual game basis costs upwards of $50 or so. By blacking out the first game of the season, the Saints may hope to sway those people who would buy a single game ticket into going ahead and purchasing the season ticket. $50 for one game or $150 for the whole season. What would you do? Go with the season ticket, for sure!!!!

Saints go 10-6 and make the playoffs. Lose to Minnesota in NFC Championship game.

I've got them for 11-5. There defense is better, it's just a matter of the offense playing with considerably more consistency than they did last year (read, less fumbles/more touchdowns).

Re: Cox and cable--I do split the cable--legally, mind you--but only get the cheap package, i.e., broadcast channels, and, here in BR, religious crap. Cox also charges extra for a cable modem if you don't have cable tv as well.
If I went illegal, I'd save $3 a month--not really worth it to me, even though I don't like them...

Thanks, guys, but I'm really not interested in purposefully setting out to rip off Cox (despise them as I might). On the other hand, if the cable in my appartment were somehow accidentally turned back on, like it was for nearly four years until recently, I would be no more likely to complain than I have ever been.
