Blue, I'm so surprised he called on her to begin with. I guess he's really desperate at this point. How could Helen make things much worse?
I have a theory on why he called on her...
His base likes red meat. So he figured he'd call on her, she'd ask a tough question, and he's shout her down... which is what happened. Then his base, who believes the media is a big an enemy as al qaeda, can go "OMG did u see him bitchslap Osama bin Thomas! Bush showed the msm whos boss today!". I am already seeing this meme spread through right wing sites.
For instance, Drudge has this headline- "BUSH TAKES ON PRESS AND HELEN THOMAS TOO".
The fact that Helen's question was spot on and that Bush lied in his answer is irrelevant to them. These people are beyond logic. They just want to see their cowboy President get tough on an 86 year old journalist.
Sad, but that's where we are.
