Ta, it is a great hat. $10 from a tiny department store. Rainbow crocheted cotton, a staple amongst the Aus hippy crowd, but he wears it well, and it will fit for years.
I gotta get that recipe...

Mrsd...some pines but mostly casuarinas which are a native tree, grow near rivers, evergreen, long needles which segment like horsetail (equisetum)....
GEL we all have those days where we feel like we are, or that we need to be. Not sure if it is/will be published in the US
Jay we did have fun, and it is good to see you on your feet again.

Ah, I thought they favored pine trees. Maybe casuarinas and pines are cousins. :)

Well, there used to be pines there too, but they got burned in a big bushfire a few years ago. Lots of plantation pine in this country Pinus Radiata - Monterey Pine. Bloody ugly. I couldn't understand what people liked about pines until I went to Oregon, and finally got what all the fuss was about.

Ha ha! Finally got to the blog site at home (my work IT fascists won't let us access such potentially thought-provoking material).
The recipe was stolen from http://www.pastrywiz.com/archive...recipe/
0333.htm and there seem to be lots of different versions floating around (so many possible recipes to make, so little time. And if I look for anything on the net I end up spending hours trying to decide which to use, and piecing different ones together).
I liked this one because it uses honey instead of sugar and has sour cream. I think I ended up changing the quantities a bit; I might have added a bit of milk too (the mix seemed a bit too stiff) and didn't use a heart-shaped tin :). I left off the extra extra sugar on top, and just sprinkled it with a bit of cinnamon. Definitely recommend grinding your own cardamom.
I dig the blog (I'm glad I'm not the only one who ends up with hot choc. rings). Sorry for the funny name and email address, I get soooo much spam that I avoid putting real ones wherever possible. It is a real account that I occasionally check for dinkum mail.
