I love kid logic...the extra leg is great!
And I felt the same way about the movie Robots. Not a single decent female role model in the whole thing!
You could probably sell the language development diary, BTW. Pretty cool that you did that....
And Crit, *you* are just adorable! I love the gushing over your son...

And you know, now I look closely at it, there are two spare legs.
the other thing I forgot to mention in the post is that when he's drawing and things don't quite meet up( like the head and neck of the pale dinosaur) he joins them with a little line saying "that is just a vein" (or a bone)...
The question is, how many people do we know whose legs have fallen off? Precisely none. Although his dad has told him the story of great-grandma Jessie who had diabetes and had her leg amputated...hmm, wonder if there is a corrolation there or just co-incidence. I actually go with the latter 'cos "in case one falls off' sounds like one of his "make it up as you go along" reasons for things happening...like the glue in the lock explanation, or the "maybe burglars did it " explanation for everything else.!

It's cool to see I'm not the only mother cherishing these odd artistic productions and the explanations that go with them. Recently, my son and I were going through his 'file' and found a couple of these pictures--I wrote his explanations on them. Now he raised his eyebrows in confusion and, laughing in disbelief, admitted to not seeing the things that the signs marked--or seeing representations as totally preposterous. (Of course, his creations were significantly more abstract than D'Arcy's and mostly tended toward complex machinery rather than animals.)
Hugs, Crit, and I've sent out your CD today! Yay. Who said slackers never get anything done?

Angel, it is good to hear that you've kept them, shown them to him, and got bemusement as the reaction...i think somewhere there might be really old stuff of mine. Probably in a box in the roof at D'Arcy's dad's house. I really need to move stuff from there before he decides to tidy up and chuck it out!
Julie, I have to say that the first time he made the comment I was floored, but it seems to come up almost every time he draws, maybe as a way of dealing with self-criticism - it doesn't look the way he wants it to, so need to correct it with something that sounds plausible? Who knows...
