Hey ho, M.C.! Peanut butter is the key! Stick some PB on the mousetrap, and mice will commute from interstate to try their paw at it. If you want to wake up to little eviscerated rodents with their bloody eyeballs ejected halfway across your kitchen floor, peanut butter can't be beat!
As for D. and his food fetish, my Beloved would say: let him. He'll get sick of pasta and cheese soon enough, unless you spice it up with a little of that delicious Forbiddenness [TM], which can make any sin irresistable...

Yeah, I second the peanut butter tip. Works a treat.
D'arcy is probably reacting to the competition for your attention. And having to go to school doesn't help :)
He'll be better soon, especially if he gets a bit of mummy-only time regularly. My boy went through an obnoxious stage too when my BB moved in. And dads are great at picking up the discontent and milking it!

Eric! I was thinking about you only yesterday, how is the bat pup? Thanks for your input on the food stuff (and the peanut butter - the beloved says "you'd catch me that way")
&Duck, thanks too for your perspective...actually you and Eric are both people whose advice is particularly relevant in my situation. I did get to do some thinking about te whole thing last night, and remembered that it isn't all bad. D and I have good times too.
I'll try the PB tonight....

Do you like cats? What about a cat? A bit more expensive than a mouse trap but extremely efficient. Well OK, that is unless
a) they bring in mousetraps complete with dead mouse, eat the body but leave the head
b) they bring the mouse in but let it go
c) they bring in a live bird rather than a mouse
And the bribery issue... well, that's not cool... why can't kids be bribed with salad and fruit anymore?

Lever, yeah, the whole cat issue...generally here hippies (alternative thinking people) are a bit down on cats 'cos they eat the wildlife, so that is a problem. The other issue at hand is that we'd quite like to get a dog (and a cat) but realise that the best way to get it all to work is to get them more or less simultaneously so that they have a chance of getting on...we don;t want to be rushed into the decision. Also complicated by the fact that I already have a (geriatric) cat, though she lives with D'Arcy's dad still, so there are loyalty issues there too...
