Gravatar What is it with kids and Lava? They just love the idea of it! I laughed long and loud when the movie 'Sharkboy and Lavagirl' came out. Sounded just like the movie executives had sat down and made a list of what kids do drawings of and commissioned someone to make a movie of it.

Gravatar Weird isn't it? That and dinosaurs...and in fact 'shark' is another word missing from the magnetic poetry index. I missed shark boy and lava girl at the cinema, should get it out on DVD perhaps.

Gravatar I managed to write a short rhyming poem with the cat-related magnetic words collection on our fridge, but it was a tough assignment. From memory (with punctuation added) it was:

Dear old cat
At her feet
She will think
Is so sweet.
Does she know
Of her drink
That you licked,
Do you think?

I first arranged all the words in order by final sounds (purr, fur, ...; cat, fat, sit, eat, ...; of, love, give, ...; and so on). That made it easier, but not by much.

Bravo to D. for working out a sentence though. It's hard work!

Gravatar What a wonderful reason to leave blogland! :) (I replied on my blog, too: no apologies ever needed. I am soooooo behind in blog visiting especially because I began an additional blog about a year ago, but moreso because life happens!

I adore reading how D'arcy learns. In my lifetime, I have officially taught reading and writing. Those magnetic sets remind me of other such "learning" games and how wonderful it is to see the lights beam in a child's eyes.

Gravatar Eric, I like that poem, and yeah, hard to do with such a limited set I'd think!

GEL. it is good, though everyone is sick at the moment, so it is hard to remember how good things are!

Gravatar I wish my kids liked to play games like that. I love games of all kinds but they have very little interest. :(
