Wow! How fun to see a video of the little guy! And he's only had the bike since Xmas? I'm impressed -- especially considering the terrain. On the other hand, I guess you don't have to worry about traffic when you're riding in a field.

cool... i didn't download the vid (trying to avoid big internet activity at work...) but pete sent a couple of stills, and also reported that D loves to yell 'Wheels on Fire' as he motors along. love it!
i'm just about done reading Lance Armstrong's first book... interesting, and good for making the discomforts of malaria seem relatively mild! i just hope D doesn't decide to become an elite athlete...

Julie - he's had a two wheeler for a while, but refused to take off the trainer wheels. This was a new bike for Christmas - the old one is at his dad's. He finally agreed to remove the trainers on the old one jsut after Christmas, and so we were allowed to take them off the new one too. The thing that i reckon has made the most difference is that I bought a 'tag-along' that attaches to my bike, but D gets handlebars and functional pedals, so he's much more used to the feeling of being on a bike with no training wheels, the feeling of leaning isn't so weird now. It's very good.
Loz- I hadn't heard the 'wheels on fire' comment, and now all I have is the Ab Fab theme music in my head! Yeah, any kind of elite sport sounds a bit scary, but I reckon his dad will talk him out of it before I get a chance - he's lived it remember. Is Lance Armstrong a good guy?
It was good to talk to you a little bit today. I haven't had any good skype experiences lately - either big delays, or really bad feedback.

He's almost there. My oldest learned to ride due to peer pressure. A slightly older boy was around riding, so he decided he could do it too. I was washing dishes and saw him riding down the backyard alone. I was so surprised!

Mrsd! I thought you'd vanished from the blogosphere! How lovely to hear from you. Kids _are_ amazing how they learn stuff without us. Perhaps we really are irrelevant after all.

WOW! Very impressive indeed. I will have to show this to his cousin Laura as she shows virtually no interest in bikes. Got her a scooter for Chrissie and although she was enthusiastic beforehand, she has lost the enthusiam since it became a reality. Her "boyfriend" (who's nearly 8) is BMX mad so I'm surprised it hasn't rubbed off yet.
You've also made me think I should try out youtube for myself! Very cool.

Duck - will do, when I get home. I am incommunicada at present...kind of. In the US, anyway.
Fi - yeah, YouTube is good, but a time sink if you're not careful. Your 8 turned into the 'cool' icon 'cos there are annoying 'emoticons' enabled. You typed an 8 and then an ) so it thought you were doing the old school ascii 'cool' emoticon. I ought to see if I can turn them off. They are annoying.
(edit - I've done it now! 8^)
