you know I'm no vegan or anything but I have been and always will be anti-foie gras - not because of those pictures though - that's just FUNNY
I've had a few arguments with my one friend (the chef) who claims that this is the life purpose of those geese - I still say it's torture
it's one thing to kill an animal for food - it's another to torture it beforehand

kitty, I have no idea if those are real, live geese or not but I was thinking if they were real then they surely were tortured being strapped into bondage gear and having a ball gag forced into it's mouth by these 'animal kindness' idiots!

For me it's more an issue of free range vs penned. I feel the same way about all the animals we use for food-the least we owe them is a happy, healthy life before we slaughter them.
Brian, and apparently so do some animals. 
I get that - but they don't have to have a gag reflex to suffer when they're over fed - it still hurts their stomachs I'm sure!!
I'm not gagging when I'm over stuffed but I still feel like crap when I have too much food in me... and MY overstuffed is nothing compared to theirs!!

A lot of people seem to agree with your view of goose discomfort and suffering because foie gras has been banned in many places now. I'm pretty ambivalent about the whole issue since I don't care for it to begin with. I know connoisseurs would probably stone me for a heathen, but to me foie gras is just chopped liver in a tuxedo.

I've never had foie gras (I don't eat organs)
I also don't eat veal
I would actually go so far as to not eat at a place that serves foie gras (not that I could afford to eat at a place that serves foie gras) haaaa
I wouldn't get up and leave if I saw it on the menu - but there are places I KNOW serve it that I would not go to
I can't go that far with veal because I would never be able to eat anywhere haaaa
but I am pretty vocal about it - if someone orders veal I will tell them all about how the little baby cows are mistreated haaaa - yes I am one of those people!! 
anyway - my mother eats foie gras all the time - but the souls of the tortured geese are getting their revenge in the form of insanely HIGH cholesterol

Actually I think that it a deplorable way to harvest food too...but this metaphorical exploration is way off.
and I do not prefer foie gras anyhoo.
I hate to see what they come up with for their anti-Veal campaign.
