Gravatar At our age, lean muscle mass is the key to fighting the fat. Fat burning will get rid of the bulge, but continued firming of muscles keeps our metabolism up there. Lean muscle mass also helps fight osteoporosis.

I like Pilates, which sounds quite similar to what you're doing.

You go, girl!

Gravatar Every time I see that word I think of pirates. 'what do pirates have to do with getting in shape?'

I could stand some fat burning help too, but for now I'm good (and good & sore, I'll tell ya) with what I'm doing. Osteoyuckitis is NOT something I'm looking forward to having.

Thanks Kim, the chirping crickets were getting kind of embarassing.

Gravatar I was washing the kitchen floor this morning, and I was thinking that there must be a site somewhere that shows how many calories we can burn off doing housework. After being on my hands and knees, washing, for thirty-five minutes, I MUST have burned something.

One nice thing about Pilates is that is increases the muscle tone in your abdominals, which supports your back. I can really tell when I'm getting lazy about it.

Gravatar Okay; I couldn't resist. I Googled "burning calories when doing housework" and I came up with a few links. It looks promising, but this will give you a laugh:

"Do a little dance while vacuuming. Vacuuming burns about 120 calories in half an hour, but if you shake your rump, do the cha cha or do ballet warm up moves while vacuuming you can boost the number of calories you burn while doing housework."

Disco housework....

Another suggestion they gave was wearing ankle weights while doing housework.

Gravatar Or instead of ankle weights I could lend you my 3.5 year old - she likes to hang onto my legs while I try to work, perhaps she'd do the same for you!

Gravatar Disco housework? Hmm... I suppose I could turn on the stereo and mop/dust/vaccuum while I boogie all over. Been a while since I boogied, it actually sounds like fun. (Oh how the kids will laugh!) Maybe they'll come out with a new show... Dancing with the Dishes?

Kristina: lol, thanks for the offer.

Gravatar Carla, I have said it before and I say it again you are so funny. I like your idea Dancing with the Dishes.
