Gravatar Since old posts are okay... here is one I wrote about my dad a bit ago...

Along with my husband, my dad is one of my heroes

If I had time, I would rewrite it and tell you more about my dad. But the one thing that sticks in my heart is that he raised 3 kids by himself for many years after my mom left to find herself when I was 6.
It was unheard of for a man to raise children by himself in his generation. Even though most dinners were cooked in the microwave, and our clothes were not hip, we had a home and a dad that never gave up.

Gravatar Trying to keep this brief, my dad was the best dad ever. He was strong, masculinity was not absent. He was merciful when he needed to show us grace. He was patient, and perservered through anything that came his way. And he always tried to show us the good in every bad situation, like how much worse it could be. Dad was a very wise man, always seeking the council of many. I could go on and on about him, but I had a friend in high school who thought my dad was like Charles Ingalls of Little House on the Prarie. A couple of years later I had a cousin say the same thing. Yeah, that was him. Only I never got to tell him because I thought he would be around longer than the age of 47. When we thought he was going to have something removed in a day surgery procedure that would only take 2 hours and got the news that things went wrong and he wasn't going to make it, I was so upset. Suddenly all I could think about was dad's salvation. Things you think you were sure of in life are questionable in death. This went on for about 10 to 15 minutes, then it hit me. Dad always said, the Lord knows what He is doing, who are we to question it. Things could be worse. At that moment I was able to rest in the Soveriengty of God, something few understand until that moment comes. Whether or not my dad was saved, God chose him to be my father and is the reason I grew to be the person I am today. I praise God for allowing my husband to know my father and my children to know their grandfather, even if only for a short time. But, most of all, I thank God for my husband. He is in a lot of ways like my father, only better. He is my children's father. He is a godly man, and with my help our children will one day say before it is too late, he is The Best Dad EVER.
