I took care of a 70 year old man who had Parkinson's. I'm hear to tell you it's such a devastating disease. His wife suffered as much as he did, not being able to do much for him. They were multimillionaires....self made. Worked their fingers to the bone to get where they were....and there wasn't a thing that money could do to help him. The medications for this disease are really tricky. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't....sometimes they make it worse. They can freeze up without it...and have totally out of control movement with it. Alot of times they end up choking to death because they can't swallow. It's a very heartbreaking disease. May Rush Limbaugh rot in hell for his behavior. This one has really just sent me over the edge.

The right seems to get off on making fun of physical appearance, disability, race, ethnic origin, gender etc, etc. Limbaugh speaks a very special language - the subtle and not so subtle language of angry white guys who can't do a damn thing except whine. Now the interesting thing about this particular category of human being (I'm trying to be Rush- like in my analysis) is that even though they might be described as "angry white guys who can't do a damn thing except whine" don't have to be white or male. It's really a self absorbed kind of category known for rejecting the common good at all costs and needing lots of drugs, food, alcohol and porn to keep themselves functioning - no double entendre meant. We've all met some of these guys. They don't want the government helping anyone but are very pissed when the government fails to embrace their various bigotries and hatred. Rush is last week's bigot. A friend of mine played Rush and Hannity constantly at work - which irritated those of us who had to go into her office. However, her son has severe mental disease and has suffered from the terrible side effects of various medications. They included the kind of jerking movements that Michael J. Fox exhibited. Her radio was silent today. Rush had gone over the edge. Of course the fact that there are no services for her son anywhere - might have something to do with it. Ann Coulter always begins her attacks by calling Democratic women - "ugly" or "Fat". I really think that went away in the eighth grade for most people - except right wing crazies. Granted, I would love to really talk about Rush's appearance and hygiene issues and about Ann's reputed issues with food and ...... Oh, well, that would put me in their category - angy white guys who can't do a thing except whine. So, I will not comment on their appearance, clothes, medical and addiction issues or lack of integrity, compassion and goodness.

Mr. Rogers - my hero - the epitome of what it looked like to be a decent and good man in the 20th century said that the most important thing he learned in seminary was that Satan is the accusor while Jesus is the one who affirms and loves. I have to catch myself - because it is a great thing to use that accusing energy on people like Limbaugh. It feels good to know that they are slime and I am not. But, it seems that to do that is to become like that which I accuse - a mirror image if you will. Fred Rogers made a conscious decision to find the good in everyone he met and as a result -people who met him wanted to be that good. Rush apparently never met Fred Rogers or anyone like him. For that he is to be pitied.

I see Matt Lauer's used the "I'm just saying what a lot of people are thinking, Michael J Fox is faking" ploy on the Today Show. This was just a variation on the gimmick Chris Wallace used when interviewing Clinton:"I get a lot of emails from people telling me to ask you why you didn't go after Osama Bin Laden". It's a way for the interviewer to put a completely false accusation out there without having to take responsibility for it. It strikes me as being the epitome of cowardice, and it's a cheap ploy no reputable journalist from times past would have ever used. But this is what happens when you get your "journalists" from the Entertainment Division.

The thing I hate about this stuff playing out in the media is that it becomes it's own personalized little drama-we expect everything we see on tv to be it's own little show. When this happens we risk losing perspective about what we're really talking about-research on stem cells to help people, not if mean old fat rush was picking on McFly.

Reading the comments on the CBS site connected to this story was one of the most enlightening parts of this discussion. You can point out that the bill prohibits cloning but the wingnuts will ignore that and keep up with their vitriol and lies. Those poor folks are seriously deluded or just plain mentally challenged. That said, I can't thank Limbaugh enough for inadvertantly bringing this important debate to the forefront. I've watched my friends mother become increaslingly immoblie from this disease and it is heartbreaking. So thanks Rush! Please keep it up!

I once heard an interview with a gang leader. He was intelligent and filled with hatred - not for anyone in particular, but just filled with hate. He talked about the most powerful moment was to be in a car, with plenty of weapons and a couple of subordinates and able to shoot anything that attracted attention. You can smell the desperation in the air, can't you?

I coach youth football and I gotta tell you, when you're late in the 4th quarter, and your opponent is down by a touchdown or two and starts making stupid mistakes, you can tell they're getting desperate. They lose their discipline and forget their coaching. They can feel the cold fingers of defeat clutching at their throats and they panic.

I think this is what is happening to the GOP and their talking stooges. Surely they've got to know that Michael J. Fox comes off as more compassionate and sympathetic even without the disease than their ass-hat Rush doing his Ann "ambiguously equine" Coulter's infallibility crap.

Its interesting. At this point in a football game, I usually sit my starters down and empty the bench to get the younger kids some playing time. That is NOT the thing to do here. Now it is time to work even harder to send these slimey rascals packing. Keep in mind that among our countrymen, there are still people who are moved to rage at the thought of a black man dating a white woman - and sadly, we still let them vote. The GOP will do anything in the world to motivate those sad individuals to the polls. They've still got a trick play or two and we don't have that big of a lead.

Deperation or not, there is no time to rest. We can have a congratulatory rest on November 8th. Somehow, I think I'll skip the post-game handshake on the 50 yard line.

Hello baby boomers:
While about 3 million people in this country are affected by neurodegenerative illness today, these diseases are age-related and the numbers of affected people will rise many times over in coming years as the U.S. population ages.

This character goes on the radio and cracks jokes about a man suffering from Parkinsons disease. Says he's faking his symptoms. Playing for the camera. It's right up there with your better jokes about, say, breast cancer or other knee-slappers like pediatric oncology.

There was a great suggestion, Limbaugh should at a minimum, if he doesn't lose his job, spend a week at a health clinic or nursing home for those living with Parkinson disease.

I keep thinking our scientists spend time and money on creating Viagra, when who the heck cares when the brain is being attacked. There are going to be a lot more older people, living longer, couldn't we keep the quality of their life up so they can be productive and safe. Work on these degenerative muscle and brain diseases, also cataracts, diabetes etc. There is so much hope in stem cell research to improve the quality of life for all people, everywhere.

Michael has such class. I have never been 100% a fan of his work as an actor (and maybe just out of disinterest, not necessarily hostility), but as a human being, damn does he have some class. And the headline is right: he comes on and says a couple of key things that just utterly vaporize Limbaugh. My favorite is "I don't need his permission to talk about this."

That's the arrogance of the Limbaughs of the world. He thinks you can't speak up for a cause unless you've got that windbag's permission.

Freedom of speech is our right but to use it responsibly is our duty. The extreme elements in the GOP always attacks the ill-( people with AIDs ( poor & sick people who cannot defend themselves, the wounded( Max Cleland and even McCain by the GOP) and the people who served these nation in war as heros (Kerry a winners of purple hearts - was swift boated by these cowards while the Duffer in the office was AWOL and so was his deputy). Unless, the Liberals and the Democrats dont stengthen their spine and fight back and hit hard where it hurts, these SOBs will continue unabated. Yes, she did. I just watched it - with some difficulty -it kept cutting off - Michael J. Fox is the most articulate spokesman for this cause. Missouri bishops are pulling out all the stops on this one and I must say that their attempts at intimidation seem to be failing. But I don't think we'll know until we vote. If you've ever had a child who was seriously ill - you know that curing that child is the center of everything. I think progressives have sort of sat back in amazement at the absolute incivility that is passing for conservative voice. Somehow it is hard to believe these people could be this slimy. But Limbaugh is the poster boy for slimy people. Ooh, I just gave myself the creeps just thinking that. - At any rate, those who live in Missouri will either reject this amendment and take their state back from the nutcases, or will embrace it and I think I'll move the four blocks to Kansas - wait a minute - not much choice here.

The fact that Rush Limbaugh is not asking people if they want fries with this order is a stinging indictment of our failure to make adequate investments in primary and secondary education for the last 30 years.

We don't need to know that American kids just barely exceed Ugandan kids in arithmetic reasoning skills to know we're screwing this up.

We only need to take note that every June in America, we give high school diplomas to functional pine cones who then run off to their local community college to take remedial reading; and if that isn't evidence enough, we can observe that a vacuous scumbag like Rush is famous for his insights and opinions.

Hell, maybe thats the plan ... if something doesn't change in the next 30 years, we'll be too goddamned dumb to question our corporate enslavement.

I love MJ Fox. He is an amazing person. Limbaugh, on the other hand, is a damned hypocrite, liar, and substance abuser.
I just can't feel anything for people like Limbaugh, other than disgust and pity; I just think about how completely unnurtured his childhood must have been. I'm not being funny, either. Classy slapdown. MJF barely acknowledges Rush exists and goes for the gold to get his message out on the back of the fatboy's comments making his ad a national item.

One of the few cases where Rush's radio show has a positive note, I'm sure MJF will make sure he makes the most of his Rush notoriety to deliver his message.
