I know this is off topic, sorry, but I beg the site-monitor to allow this. The Romney campaign is in panic mode since this you tube entry detailing Romney's senate race debate with Ted Kennedy back in 1994, and how he was pro abortion, pro gay rights, etc.. Now, he's come out saying he was wrong about those views, essentially telling the world he only said those things to get elected in a liberal state. First, let me say that I agree with the basic premise entirely - Romney is changing his tune to suck up to the base. If he was any more transparent, he'd be a window.

That said, people do reverse their position on abortion, both for and against. Painful experiences and wrenching personal decisions will have that effect on a person. It's unlikely that Romney had the sort of firsthand experience that leads to that change though, so cynicism is the correct response here.

Like the old bumper sticker said "If you can't change your mind, are you sure you still have one?"
