Malalai Joya tells it like it is. From what I read at Rawa.org and Joya's website the Northern Alliance and warlords are just as bad as the Taliban. Heck, all the Bush Administration did was pick a side. The Bush Administration could have just as easily sided with the Taliban. Joya shouts down everyone including the Bush Administration. She is one tough woman. She stood up to the warlords in parliment thats for sure and almost got killed for it. In case anyone is interested you can see that video of the Afghan Loya Jirga here. Under the audio/video section:

It would also explain why Binny "got away" and ran off to Pakistan while the Taliban got pushed back to Qandihar, and why Bush no longer is looking for Binny and doesn't care that the Taliban is growing against.

Yes, that UNOCAL pipeline deal was the main issue. The Taliban didn't want to play ball. It fits exactly with what the other two posters stated as well. As I understand it, Karzai is also a UNOCAL man.

Anyone listen to Lindsy Graham on Meet the Press? In a strong defense of the war, he said he wouldn't let Al Queda taste the blood of American defeat.
He also stated that even though mistakes had been made in the war, mistakes that have made the war more difficult, the worst mistake was yet to be made.
What the hell's that supposed to mean? He also renewed the domino theory in that all other arab states would fall under Al Queda's speel once we left.

I saw that last night, and it does explain *a lot*:
-- Why the Constitution says that US money needs to be back by precious metals.
-- Why Jefferson said that debts and inheritance are things that shouldn't be dumped on the next generation.
-- Why Woodrow Wilson was one of the worst presidents, yet he is seen in a positive light in history.
-- Why the Federal Government instituted income tax in 1913.
-- Why the Great Depression happened, and why it hit the entire world.
-- Why America's precious metal currency collapsed in 1933.
-- Why FDR/Truman wanted to bring back precious metal currency with the Bretton Woods agreement.
-- Why Nixon was forced to collapse the Bretton Woods agreement in the early 70's.
-- Why the following chain of events happened after the collapse of BW: high inflation --> high interest rates --> high national debt
-- Why commodities shot through the roof after the budget was balanced in the Clinton years.
-- Why we're in heavy debt again.

Afghans: U.S. troops shot at civilians

Yep! It's going great if you like death and mayhem. I can't wait for the PTSD sufferers to return home and get the great treatment at Walter Reed Bldg. #18.
And your congressional speaker won't impeach and your senate maj. leader works with LIEberman.
Until the true progressives are in control, our country is phuKKKed!
Better hope the Dem movement turns into the anti-incumbent movement, or it will take Russia and China and their version of a Marshall Plan to save our country.
Considering the arrogance of our people, no one will really want to help after they end their misery by freeing themselves of us and our fascist state. Perpetual war is never a viable geo-political strategy, especially when we're too broke to pay for it.
After last week, people understand the economic power of China and will try even harder to make us(US) less economically relevant.
So we're stuck with having to determine our own political future and we're failing to act! After WTC/9-11, Afghanistan/Iraq, Katrina/Rita/Wilma, Walter Reed #18(and probably more much worse), the same assholes are unchallenged.
.
Well.... we do know that the bush crime family and cheney(now a billionaire) and Rummy will be confortably ensconced in their new bunkers and will have Secret service protection for life.
So they will have robbed the nation into the poor house and be protected by our government after having done so.
Yes, the "SYSTEM" works!

I couldn't have put that any better!
She thinks like McCain and THAT will be her undoing. That and the HarryReid/JoeLIEberman/BenNelson Democrats in the senate. If hillary had any sway, you think she'd rein them in and get some progress in the Senate. Instead, she proposes a flagBurning amendment, don'tAsk/Tell and Barack/Geffen Bashing.
Pathetic!
what's worse is that people are recognizing the dynastic intentions of the ClintonBush Family and are beginning to wake up.
We'll see how this develops....

I think this video is really important, as money creation is central to the organizing principles of our society.
I've been looking for a simple explanation of our debt-money system and now we have it:

Do you remember back around 2000 when Greenspan was called to testify to Congress about how best to utilize the budget surplusses? I was 'shocked' that he said that paying down the debt was NOT a good idea... now we know WHY.

The Malalai Joya story on PBS was a nice but short introduction to her. I do think I learned more reading about her online except for tidbits such as her uncle being her head of security.
Does anyone know how one can view Enemies of Happiness? Right now the only and few viewings are overseas. Is this film likely to become available for sale? How does this work usually?
Bush can do all the Texas swaggering and carefully orchestrated PR stunts he wants. Everyone including his own party knows his dick is smaller than a thimble.
Malalai Joya is the real deal. Future winner of a Nobel peace award while Bush is hopefully serving consecutive life sentences for crimes against humanity.

Malalai Joya story on PBS is telling.
NOW: Have you made any progress in your hopes of having the warlords removed?
Joya:"It seems that the U.S. government and its allies want to rely on them and install them to the most important posts in the executive, legislation and judicial bodies. Today the whole country is in their hands and they can do anything using their power, money and guns. They grab billions of dollars from foreign aid, drugs and precious stones smuggling.
The U.S. wants a group or band in Afghanistan to obey its directions accurately and act according to the U.S. policies, and these fundamentalists' bands of the Northern Alliance have proved throughout their life that they are ready to sacrifice Afghanistan's national interests for their lust for power and money. The U.S. has no interest in the prosperity of our people as long as its regional and strategic interests are met.
Many don't bother to look at the past to understand US involvement in Afghanistan. This is another clear example of where the priorties of the Bush administration are."

Another blogger emailed me saying they were offended by Far East Cynic's portrayal of Pat Schroder, and offended that I would link to the blog as a result. Schroder is no stranger to controversy. I don't have to agree with Far East's portrayal of her to see that it's not much different from how many of us lefty bloggers portray Ann Coulter. Just because Schroder is a Democrat and revered by some of us does not make her immune to foul-mouthed criticism. Ask Hilary.

Thus, you took me down I take it?
Thanks for my 5 minutes of fame. Had that "offended" blogger looked in depth at my blog you would find that I have been consistent in my opposition to the USFSPA which was the main reason for my post. I am a victim of that rather flawed piece of legislation. Its a bad a law and she was the author of it.
One of the reasons I read this blog is because it tries to maintain a perspective that is not simpy one sided. I will continue to do so since on the whole, I like what I read here. That's why I will continue to link here, even if you find it hard to link to me.
I just find it dissapointing that I cannot enjoy a link simply because all of my politics are not what someone else wants.
The offended blogger should e-mail me if they find so much to be upset about. Or comment. Which, had she read them would find some agreement with my postion as well. That offended blogger would find that I am neither left or right have decried many positions the right takes. Guess I don't get any credit for that.
I will now slink back to my place in relative obscurity..............
It's an interesting insight into the inability of some to see past ideological labels.
