The repukes have 22 seats coming open, compared to 12 for the dems. Among them Dominici (who recently lawyered up), and Inhofe who is known to have an anti-science bias. Al Franken is challenging Norm Coleman, and the Mississippi seat looks relatively weak.

Personally, I couldn't care less about Rudy's cross-dressing. Even if he were a frequent transvestite, this is not the same as being gay or being a transsexual -- most transvestites are actually straight. What bothers me is the cavalier attitude he expressed towards his marital vows and towards his wife during his second marriage -- to my way of thinking, that says a lot about his character (or rather, his lack thereof).

People are being disingenuous here. I will lay odds that some republicans claim to be 'open minded' (and think that all republicans are like them) while some are enraged by gay pride (and think that all republicans are like them).

Republicans aren't members of some monolithic organisation with punch-cards and bar-codes on their necks. They have different opinions within the same hierarchy.

I can't think of anything more irrelevant that Rudy likes to cross-dress... *unless* he likes to cross-dress, and legislates and comes out against cross-dressers.

I do get a kick out of the debate over Rudy's choice in clothing. In truth however, the color of ones skin, the clothes they wear, the religion they practice is not that important. What is important is how they view this countries role in the world. How they view the balance between the big companies who continually make obscene profits and the poor who are getting poorer. Are they like the idiot in the white house now who cares not about the citizens of this country. Who uses our young men and women to keep a war going so they and their buddies continue to rake in the dollars? Or are they sensitive to the needs of this country. Are they humble enough to consider all possibilities in any given situation and then listen to those who are wiser. Would they be honest and trustworthy? Would they address the issues that affect this country before worrying about the rest of the world?

There are plenty of very serious questions to ask about someone who is running for the top position in this country. How one dresses is really not one of them.

I think the way he handle the investigation after 9/11 makes me NOT want to vote for him. He compromise the investigation by whisking away the evidence to be melted in China. I just watched the DVD "Giuliani Time" and it was very revealing. Towards the end of his 2nd term as mayor, he was enormously unpopular, even with his beloved police department. He ran NYC like a tyrant sweeping the poor and homeless under the rug and arresting street artists. He was headed for total obscurity and then along came 9/11 and overnight he became an American hero!! How easily the American people are duped.

9/11 didn't necessarily bring out the best in our leaders, it brought out the worst and most gullible in many of us.

Rudy was a great New York City mayor. He cleaned it up, lowered the crime rate, got the porn theaters out of the city and made it a great city again.

But I can't see him getting the nomination. John McCain seems like the best the conservatives can hope for.
