McLaughlin had a LOT of talk of impeachment today. It was the perkiest and most reasonable (least spun) of the Sunday shows.
What the hell accent is it Tony Blankley has, anyway? He seems to turn it on and off, but it doesn't seem to be at will. It's as if a number of people are trying to speak through his mouth at once, fighting for dominance.

One other thing they're trying to do is marginalize black people. What, with 2% support for Bush, or maybe 2 supporters of Bush, Colin Powell and Condi Rice? I was listening to speeches last Monday in Atlanta at the King memorial services, and I heard mention of the Project for the New American Century in those speeches; ever hear of any mention of PNAC in the mainstream media? Nope, marginalize blacks, it plays well in white Christian households.

Our Finest Hour
By Jon Gold
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all."
Do you remember what it was like to be a kid, and having to say those words? For me, it always seemed like a chore. Having to get up every morning, put your hand over your heart, and say the Pledge. A kid has better things to do with their time, don't they?
That being said, there were times when I felt proud to say those words.
For instance, do you remember when the United States' hockey team beat the Soviets in Lake Placid during the 1980 Olympics? WOW. I was only 8 years old when that happened, but I watched A LOT of TV as a kid, so I remember the coverage from Philadelphia's Action News. I remember saying the pledge in 2nd grade, after my teacher reiterated what I had seen the night before, and thinking how proud I was to be an American. It didn't bother me to say the pledge that day.
That was then, and here we are today.

John-
How about interviewing Mark Crispen Miller- this article is so right on-
We are not addressing what will make us lose the next election.
But now we are seeing what were once considered the more intelligent and in some cases more principled media such as NPR, Salon and Mother Jones distance themselves from meaningful controversy -- —pulling the few wimpy punches they have. (Bullshit controversy, however, is still in fashion.) We are talking about Mark Crispin Miller’s new book, Fooled Again -- How the Right Stole the 2004 Election and Why They’ll Steal the Next One, Too (Unless We Stop Them). Miller has become a known and respected progressive figure, one of the few in-your-face bespectacled lefty author types with any credibility. But when it comes to promoting Fooled, the guy can’t even get arrested. No interviews, nothing. In fact, these days even his cash bounces -- —Miller can’t even buy a spot on National Public Radio for his book.

I resent the allusions being made that I am some kind of racist or bigot. That's just nonsense. Barak Obama is famous and Harry Belafonte is famous. That's all. Of course I'm famous, too. So, I can ask famous people about each other. Ok?
Got that? Now, Barak is a good boy, he answered the question real nice, why you all trying to make trouble. You know if you even think of nominating a Democrat that can actually win in '08, half of your party will vote for Nader again,
or someone like him. And don't think Karl Rove won't be channeling funds in that general direction. So what are you complaining about, you're your own worst enemies, Democrats!

I think they're scared-for good reason. They're heads are literally on the chopping block. Look at what happened to PBS. Neocon takeover-not as bad as promised, but still nasty.
Our local Public Broacasting station is constantly running superconservative religious programming, nothing like it used to be. Tavis Smiley comes on at, or past midnight. NewsHour with Jim Lehrer is often pre-empted by a Baptist ministry show.

Timmeh obviously thinks all black people know each other and can speak for each other. This is a typical mistake a lot of ignorant white people make. I speak from a position of knowledge, having grown up in an all white neighbourhood. I made the same mistake Timmeh made here-only I was like 16 when I did that. And I was so bitch slapped (figuratively speaking) over it I learned my lesson on the first go.
Senator Obama should have asked him "Why are you asking me about Harry Belafonte's stuff?" and made Timmeh tell him exactly why he came up with this question. He thought about it for awhile before he asked it.
It would be embarrassing for Russert if he weren't as thick as two short planks.
As for what Mr Belafonte said, I say "Right on, bro. I couldn't have said it better myself." Let's ask Laura Bush what she thinks of my opinion. After all, She's a white woman and I'm a white woman...

I get upset when the toilet overflows - not because a conservative newsman asks a question of a junior statesman. That's his job to ask off-center and provocative questions. We know he's biased toward the administration.
Unfortunately, this Chavez-Belafonte appearance will probably weaken the powerful message that Harry was speaking. Belafonte might soon be considered by middle-America as the Hanoi Jane of Oil War #2 - so why shouldn't Russert ask the question?

What was powerful about Harry's message is that he was free to leave his own country to stand with a dictator and complain about George W Bush. Later in the show, Tim asked Carville what he thought about Senator Reid's apology for his memo comparing the Repugs with the Mafia.
WTF?
Tim serves up batting practice questions for Dick Cheney and his kind, and asks Democrats to comment on other Democrat's missteps.
Speaking of Repug talking points, Russert actually had the gall to show a chart showing that 1/3 of Abramoff pay offs went to Democrats. Since Abramoff did not give $1 to ANY Democrat at any time, and there is zero evidence that he "directed" the Indian tribes he was robbing to give money to Democrats, why does Timmy continue this farce? I mean, if he is not a Republican operative that is?

Peeps, this wonderful site has truly been ruined by trolls.
As fun as it may be to debate them, please take my word for it: The ONLY way to rid C&L of trolls is by refusing to feed them.
Don't debate trolls. There are plenty of people here that have conservative views who are willing to debate respectfully (Anti-Socialist, CDS, Alf, even Batman, if you ask him to cut the cursing). And there are others who will debate less respectfully, but at least honestly.
The trolls don't want to debate you. THEY WANT TO HIJACK AND DISRUPT THE THREADS. Even if you make an unassailable point, they'll just change the subject to keep hijacking the thread.
DON'T LET THEM WIN. STOP FEEDING THE TROLLS.

Like Hell it doesn't! The Repug Smear Machine spins the Republican Abramoff scandal as bipartisan corruption, then addresses controlling lobbists just before their members are indicited, trying to be seen as "Reformers?"
Fact: Abramoff is a rabid repug who stole money from Indian tribes, and used some of the loot to buy Repug votes.
Here is the point, that voters should be told:
11 years after the "Contract on America," the Repugs were too busy filling their pockets with Abramoff loot to bother with reform. Now, only after JACKabramOFF pleads guilty and turns State's Evidence, the Crooks and Liars (Repugs) find their conscience.
This is about as absurd as the Chimperor asking past Secretaries of State for their advice about Iraq policy 3 years after the invasion!
Yeah, it fucking matters!

Um...Bush wasn't elected, either time. So Bush is more dictator-y than Chavez.
So George W. Bush must be a dictator. Hugo Chavez was elected by his people. Bush was elected by his people. Therefore Bush is also a dictator.
Here that, the right is conceding that Bush is a dictator.
Whew, we are making progress.

Are you claiming that if no dems are caught in the Abramoff web, that the american public will see dems as morally superior to repubs in some way? And if so, why do you think the public doesn't know about or rmemeber any of the dem scandals?

The media loooooooves to try to portray Michael Moore as the official spokesperson for the Democratic Party, which is of course, laughable.
But as was noted, do the talking heads ever ask the Republicans to justify Robertson, Falwell or even RALPH REEDS ridiculous statements or actions?
Nope
Quite a double standard
Stacyb
Michael Moore is the speaker for the Democratic Party. What other Democrat is speaking out? Oh well, yeah Give Em Hell Harry told us that there is a Culture of Corruption the other day, but everyone's forgot about that now. Democrats never actually develop a campaign to keep the message going and make it understood. They just do one exclamation and you never hear from them again. Remember the big deal that Harry did in the Senate. He got a promise from the Republicans for a plan for something, but we've never heard any plan or any follow-up from Give Em Hell Harry. Democrats really don't have a clue.

If Hitler and his propaganda machine had to deal with blogs, filtering and exposing every single word they say, every f-cking day and night, WWII and Holocaust would have never happened. Dobbs provoking and begging bloggers for recognition yesterday is a perfect example of the US media demise. Matthews , Russert and the rest of these whores are going down and they know it very well. Bush and his whores are going down and they know it too. The partial destruction of two unique, historical, American cities under Bush's watch is enough to ruin these people and their legacy forever. Is it time for San Francisco to complete another trifecta you bloody scum begs? This week I met five homeless people asking me for money, two of them were from New Orleans and being short of 5 bucks after a week makes me really proud American citizen you Bush apologist shameless whores who contribute to this nation absolutely nothing. If by the end of March, Bush doesn't unleash true hell for American people that the Right has been preparing us for the last four years, it will mean that blogs have passed the ultimate test. Maybe you don't realize but the future is at stake and the countdown has begun. The people will always rise up and win but this time Bush neocon nazi clan will act like bloody, unleashed animals whose very survival is at stake. No wonder you can see a desperate horror in the media anchors' eyes. These “controversial” anti-leftist questions are not really their fault, their fault is being silent and treasonous to American people.

I will make this point concise since everyone has no clue why Harry Belafonte has come out so strong on this matter about Bush's spying, illegal wiretaps and targeting the so-called "enemies of the state":
1. Harry Belafonte was friends with Martin Luther King, Jr.
2. Harry Belafonte donated lots of his money for the Civil Rights Movemebt of the 1960s
3. Martin Luther King Jr. was spied on and wiretapped by the FBI illegally and blackmailed.
4. Harry Belafonte was also targeted by the FBI illegally during the era of the Civil Rights Movement for his assocation with Martin Luther King, Jr., and he understands these things as he was once seen as an "enemy of the state" here in the United States for peaceful assembly during the Civil Rights marches and the like during the 1960s. Belafonte is justified more than his critics to feel how he does about illegal wiretaps and spying since he has been outspoken against the Bush War in Iraq and has once been a target of government surveillance.
****Oh, and Belafonte's friend Martin Luther King was assassinated and the government blamed it on a patsy who was overseas at the time---yes James Earl Ray--did not kill King. I will let you figure it out but 9-11-2001 did not happen the way you all have been lied and manipulated into believing either. Belafonte is a very smart man and is on to the type of corporate critics who cannot accept that their puppet Bush is being criticized.
Bush is a puppet as Reagan and Nixon were puppoets of the ruling oligarchs for which Russert & matthews are their microphone stooges.
One last thing---let's see all of Belafonte'e critics be wiretappped abd soied on illegally and see how they react and accept it as just an "innocent mistake by Bush."
The media not knwoing the history of Belafonte being spied on, or just to lazy to report the truth, are again being the EVIL CROOKS & LIARS!!!!

Harry Belafonte is not a hypocrite but his critics are liars....Belafonte was illegally spied on in the 1960s and most likely again now. So unless you have been in his shoes I suggest you shut up. I do not like to tell people to shut up but I have not heard the media once be honest and ask why does Belafonte think this way and is there any justification in his past for saying this? Yes, by golly---Harry was illegally spied on from 1966-1975 as was his pal Martin Luther King until he was assassinated.......So if you have not fought in the sruggle you have no right to criticizw Harry Belafonte who remembers what it was like to drink at separate water fountains and lived in the day where it said "Whites Only" and "Coloreds" and no voting allowed. So, yes Harry Belafaonte can criticize Bush as being a terorist for illegally spying on Americans.
I do not see the moral equivalence of Belafonte and Robertson---apples and oranges. So try not to make false analogies which do not all hold the same equal weight.

ok, if that is how you feel, Avaroo. A democracy is often refered to as "two wolves an a sheep deciding what is for dinner". Remember in history class, when after the framers of our Constitution came out of assembly, and when Elizabeth Powell, whose husband was mayor of Philadelphia, anxiously asked Franklin what kind of government this new country would have.
“A republic, madam, if you can keep it,’’ replied the eminent statesman.

Also, since nobody else has mentioned it, it's worth pointing out that Harry Belafonte is a great and accomplished man, while Tim Russert is a self-important, pissant media whore.
Harry Belafonte is TEN times the man Tim Russert is, and that's a fact.
Harry Belafonte marched side by side for Civil Rights with his friend the Rev. Dr Martin Luther King. Harry Belafonte organized the "USA for Africa We are the World" benefit. Harry Belafonte has worked for peace and humanitarian efforts for some 50 years. Risking his own career, he has helped save and improve lives all around the world, and worked to make America a better country. Tim Russert, on the other hand, pats himself on the back while gathering crumbs from the tables of the powerful and the rich who are destroying what's left of our democracy. He isn't fit to polish Harry Belafonte's shoes.
As others here have questioned, what the hell is the point of asking Obama to comment on these remarks? Beyond the racist sub-text, the question accomplishes nothing except to remind anyone paying attention that Russert is truly clueless. Why doesn't Russert invite Harry Belafonte onto his cluster-fuck little program and pose the same question to Belafonte?

Belafonte Continues Tirade Against Bush
By VERENA DOBNIK
Associated Press Writer
Sat Jan 21, 6:48 PM ET
Entertainer Harry Belafonte, one of the Bush administration's harshest critics, compared the Homeland Security Department to the Nazi Gestapo on Saturday and attacked the president as a liar.
"We've come to this dark time in which the new Gestapo of Homeland Security lurks here, where citizens are having their rights suspended," Belafonte said in a speech to the annual meeting of the Arts Presenters Members Conference.
"You can be arrested and not charged. You can be arrested and have no right to counsel," said Belafonte.
Belafonte's remarks on Saturday — part of a 45-minute speech on the role of the arts in a politically changing world — were greeted with a roaring standing ovation from an audience which included singer Peter Yarrow of the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary, and members of the arts community from several dozen countries.
Messages seeking comments from Homeland Security and White House officials were not immediately returned.
He had called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world" during a trip to Venezuela two weeks ago. Belafonte, 78, made that comment after a meeting with Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.
The Harlem-born Belafonte, who was raised in Jamaica, said his activism was inspired by an impoverished mother "who imbued in me that we should never capitulate to oppression."
He acknowledged that the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks demanded a reaction by the United States, but said the policies of the Bush administration were not the right response.
"Fascism is fascism. Terrorism is terrorism. Oppression is oppression," said Belafonte, who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Bush, he said, rose to power "somewhat dubiously and...then lies to the people of this nation, misleads them, misinstructs, and then sends off hundreds of thousands of our own boys and girls to a foreign land that has not aggressed against us."

It's ridiculous to think that all people of color know each other and think a like. Secondly, Obama ISN'T African American. . . He's biracial.

"Why is Russert asking this question to Obama at all?"
Because Obama is black, and everyone knows all African Americans know each other! Sheeesh, didn't know that?

The points about Russert are certainly not unfair, but why pick on Tim while at the same time making the fake/phony left-right Dem-Rep paradigm seem valid when the entire MSM and all conniving Dems remain complicit in keeping The Big Lie of 9/11 hushed up?
C'mon, now; give me a number:
How many discrepancies, implausibilities, improbabilities, and impossibilities must YOU recognize before YOU begin to question and recognize the entire official legend of 9/11 as The Big Lie?
Have you grown too weary and trusting and fearful and complacent to want to live under the U.S. Constitution any more?
Anyone who can still think for themselves can see that they're ALL lying at us. And by promoting the fake false distractive divisive Dem-vs-Rep thing, so is crooks&liars.
You can now click your heels together 3 times and wake up and reclaim your constitution by repeating "I want to know the truth". Or you can pay no attention to that man behind the curtain (but that would mean that Dorothy was braver than you, and you really don't deserve to have our stolen Constitution back).

Why does Osama Bin Laden sound like he's getting his talking points from Tim Russert.

I just got this response from NBC News regarding my complaint about the Belafonte question to Barack Obama:
Thank you for your e-mail.
The Chicago Tribune of December 25, 2005 said the following:
"Harry Belafonte, the entertainer and civil rights activist, corresponds with [Senator] Obama by telephone and e-mail."
The article continues quoting Belafonte as saying:
"I think Sen. Obama is a force...We've seen so many others who have come to high places and have failed so miserably. I think he could be our exception to the rule."
It is sound and fair journalism to ask a political figure about comments made by a prominent supporter. That same standard is consistently applied on Meet the Press. Here are just a few examples: on February 13, 2000, presidential candidate George W. Bush was asked about comments made by Bob Jones; on February 20, 2000, Sen. John McCain was asked about comments made by his political consultant about David Duke; on February 27, 2000, Karl Rove was asked about comments made by Pat Robertson; and on October 3, 2004, Republican Senate candidate Tom Coburn was asked about comments made by Alan Keyes.
Thank you for writing and watching.

this was a trick question, no doubt given to little rus from his sugar daddy karl rove. the trick is this : harry has the balls to tell the truth. harry can only tell it like it is, which is the right of any old man. they cannot touch harry because he is old and rich and a champion of the people. you can't debate harry on the issues because he is a loose cannon and some truth might slip out. no, better to get someone like barak to calm things down, to be reasonable, to be credible, to distance himself from harry. now harry is the asshole because barak does not support what he said. did little rus ever ask bush such a trick question? no he did not because he was too busy licking the commander-in- chief asshole to try and trip him up. little rus is a total piece of shit. he is a racist, but that would not stop him from licking barak's ass if he were the president. little rus is a souless bootlicker and big rus is right to be ashamed of his loser son

I fell in love with Obama (easy Republicans, its just a saying) when I heard him speak at the DNC. I know 2008 is out of the question, but I sure hope he runs for Pres. one day, because he'll have my vote.
oh yeah, almost forgot. Buck Fush!
