It's not a platform for leftist tripe.

Get thee to an osteopath, KG! You have all my sympathy ...

Gravatar Sus, I've always been able to fix this with a combination of anti-inflammatory drugs, painkillers and exercise.
But the cold weather is making it much, much worse.
An osteopath begins to look tempting, since scans only show normal osteo-arthritic degeneration.

Gravatar Aging is a true bitch . . . . . as are degenerative conditions. My sympathies.

Here's one to cheer you a bit.

Gravatar Thanks for that GW--the link doesn't seem to work though. Maybe it's just a glitch this end.

Gravatar KG, seriously, anti-inflammatories, etc, do more harm than good long-term, in my humble.

They treat the symptom and not the cause, making any relief short-term at best. And of course all drugs are, technically, poisons, the long-term effect of which is not conducive to good health.

This is not the forum, but there's an old adage that preaches the sense of trying alternatives when something isn't working ...

Ask around for personal recommendations. Word of mouth advertising is always the best.

Good luck. Back pain is no fun. I used to be a sufferer, but not for a long time, thank goodness.

Gravatar Many thanks Sus--I'll look into it. I've found that keeping fit has always kept the monster at bay, but not this time.
The anti-inflamm. and painkillers have just been used to allow me to get active again--it's not as though I use 'em constantly.
Will ask about an osteo though.

Gravatar Hello KG

1. Thanks for the link and hope it brought a laugh. For what it is worth

2. I know that back pain can be one of the worst afflictions. My father had horrendous problems with it. I dodged that bullet and can only sympathathize with you on this one. Now, if you also have a knee that's gone "vorshitten," we can trade war stories.

Gravatar I hope your back heals up soon. Pulled my back out a year ago, hasn't been the same since.

Gravatar Hang in there KG, perhaps try sleeping on a hard surface. I've been told that helps.

Gravatar Or a chiropractor, KG. I'd always given them a wide berth as a result of the crack & pull merchant my dad went to when I was a kid, of whom Mum was always dubious.

Unfair. After accepting the advice of people I trusted, I have used chiropractors in both Australia and NZ and they were fab. Very gentle, and in my experience, very little difference between that and osteopathy.

Bowen Therapy, or "Bowtech" as it's known is *incredibly* gentle and can work wonders. It's such gentle manipulation, it can performed upon infants. Really!

Google it. You'll be surprised.

Gravatar Will do, Sus--and thank you all for the advice and sympathy. I'm so seldom unwell it comes as something of a surprise to find that the body is capable of stabbing us in the back. (so to speak)

Gravatar KG: "Injured back. In bed. Few posts".
If you could manage four, at least the bed would be a four-poster! Hope it doesn't hurt when you laugh

Gravatar Very clever, Wake Up!

Gravatar Bowen Therapy

Sus - I thought that Barker (?Baker) was the father of manipulation. Anti-inflammatories do not have an accumulative effect, unless you are still using phenacetin or have an eroded gastric mucosa. If used properly they have an amazing analgesic effect and will help relieve muscle spasm.

kg - get well soon. Bed rest works a charm. A reputable chiropractor can work wonders too - I should know as my dad often helped my back recover from injuries incurred in my wild youth.

Gravatar Thanks Mawm. Brufen and codeine seem to be helping--with Valium occasionally to help prevent muscle spasms.
Now I rattle when walking.....bloody pills!

Gravatar Thanks for note re anti-inflammatories, mawm. Re pain relief, I guess I'm reluctant to continually treat the symptom & not the cause, running the risk of immunity at the same time. Know what I mean?

Re Bowen: this technique was the brainchild of the late Tom Bowen, from Geelong, (Vic, Australia). I was put onto it when a friend sustained a bad neck injury in a car crash & was having no joy with remedies. Being self-employed it was having a bad impact upon his earnings.

He was desperate. A friend recommended a chap in Feilding (Manawatu). The treatment worked beautifully & Allister (friend) couldn't speak highly enough of him. Since then both my parents have received treatment from a practitioner in their hometown. All good stuff.

FWIW.
